OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Hairbland on May 18, 2016 17:32:34 GMT 1, I don't really get Stik as an artist but obviously a great guy, have aired this in the past . Haven't ever tried to buy a print and won't be in the future but I do keep away from things that don't interest me on here now. I would love one of these but it's just not going to happen. The main three types of punter on this thread are, those that have the money and love OS Gemeos also want to buy but are a little worried about the ROI at some point later. Flippers looking for a quick big buck. People that can't afford it so just run it/them down. All talked up/down in different methods, happens all too much now. Far too much money involved for a signed print hardly anyone has seen. Also people just thinking.. Errr wtf ha
And some entertained by the dialogue. They are not my thing, but this seems like a beautiful piece. ROI for fans and flippers would seem to be solid. But at this point not really urban art, or if urban art then urban art co-opted by collectors and investors. I do think the 99 Prints concept exists to feed this market.

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by rgc on May 18, 2016 17:41:04 GMT 1, I was trying to justify this as I love their work but can't. To put this into perspective for me... 3 years ago I bought a 98 color screen print that took nearly 2 years to produce. The artist is a RCA with MBE for services to art and was in the same class as Hockney it cost £800. This just seems to be to hard to justify. Will look nice framed is not enough for me..sorry but i feel this is more wolf of wall Street territory.
Wow, he must use slow drying paint?

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by mpow on May 18, 2016 17:49:20 GMT 1, Print details including bright reds will surely pop on the wall. Classic imagery from the twins with those patterned shirts, faces jumping out of the pockets. Quality will be top notch from the lithograph process. I can see how the image is not for everyone... but not everyone would want an expensive squigly Peanuts character from Kaws either

Only second print (198 total) from the twins and the details are incredible. They're likely not releasing much else affordable in the future.

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Feral Things on May 18, 2016 19:01:22 GMT 1, here's a question. Is art meant to be pretty? Nope! It's the ugly horror of Goya's etchings and Francis Bacon's paintings that convey their messages and make them so brilliantly, compelling.
The thing that I love the most about Os Gêmeos' work is that it shows real people living real lives, with all the awkwardness and imperfections that entails. Personally, the muralists that paint pieces featuring women that conform to the stereotypical idea of beauty do nothing for me; they feel soulless and I have no connection with these works. Although Os Gêmeos' characters might be yellow and stylised they feel far more human and more real to me. They have obviously painted plenty of 'pretty' subjects but my favourite canvas of theirs is of a newly married couple; he's got a mono-brow and she's on the dumpy-side. They might not be the 'prettiest' couple but they positively ooze love and commitment and it's an incredible painting...unfortunately, I can't find a photo of it right now and this is as close as I could find.
Incidentally, Os Gêmeos took part in an exhibition in Manchester back in 2004 and the works that were sold were flipped straight away; unsurprisingly, they were less than pleased! I wish these prints were more affordable too but unfortunately the reason they aren't (and one of the reasons why they haven't had a UK exhibition since) is the minority of people who have perpetuated this culture of flipping ever since.

Don't get me wrong the twins are REAL ARTIST. compared to a lot of what i see being sold on this site and elsewhere is mind boggling to me but 6K for a piece of paper with a signature is insanity. prints don't not have the substance a canvas does. nor the value on a resale. for me as an artist you shouldn't place yourself in a bracket where only one class of people can buy your work. even Picasso made pieces affordable to the less fortunate.

I've seen the work from the show and its stunning. All was priced between 120k and 250k and now is sold out. I wasn't told about a print but not saying there won't be.
I think this print is extraordinary. I think the twins are the most successful artists to come from South America in some time. Anyone who has spent time in Brazil will surely have seen their work everywhere. And for those saying its a yellow cartoon need to do some research. Its traditional Brazilian folk imagery.
Recently their canvasses at auction have done quite well so to question their market seems at best naive and at worst bitter. Sure, it's weird not to release the image beforehand but arguing about price comes down to arguing about individual circumstances.

there are a slew of prints that are worth far more now than they were 5 - 10 years ago. so the question here is would a print by the twins follow that trend. id say that it holding its value is likely, but as i said its speculation at best.
question 2. trust me, if i could afford a canvas by Os Gemeous Id buy one. However that ship has long sailed for me. Buying this print allowed me to have something by them, that I like, in my collection. i could buy originals by other artists for the same price, but ultimately, be it paper, canvas, etc, most art is worth in raw materials a slight slight fraction of its cost.

I understand those people that already have in their home three or four Banksy prints, a big painting by Futura, a pair of originals by Swoon, maybe some Kaws too, others by Retna, etc etc. but if you does not already own this type of valuable art in your home this print is absolutely a crazy purchase....it's like buying stocks when they have reached the top of their value; not the best investment you could have done imo. Better to invest on some originals

There are much safer places to put your money if you are looking to truly invest. its funny you say that because most not all collectors say they buy art as an investment. Im an artist and have been since i can remember. I live to paint I don't paint to live. many artist paint to live. A true artist will give you their work just for the appreciation of it. no matter how big his/her name is. I acquired a serious collection that way. My personal opinion buy what you like and try to establish a relationship with the artist you support. You acquire better and more original pieces that way. A real artist values his collectors more than he values his work.
Maybe stop looking at art as if it were an investment? There are much safer places to put your money if you are looking to truly invest. its funny you say that because most not all collectors say they buy art as an investment. Im an artist and have been since i can remember. I live to paint I don't paint to live. many artist paint to live. A true artist will give you their work just for the appreciation of it. no matter how big his/her name is. I acquired a serious collection that way. My personal opinion buy what you like and try to establish a relationship with the artist you support. You acquire better and more original pieces that way. A real artist values his collectors more than he values his work.

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Eric Pause on May 18, 2016 20:04:22 GMT 1, Makes me laugh everytime someone refers to them as the twins like they are mates with them. personally everytime says 'the twins' im reminded of a pair of boobs. "Os Gêmeos" is just "The Twins" in Portuguese. I find it easier to say in English than comically mispronouncing it in Portuguese.
