Make your own Invader!, by Dive Jedi on Jan 15, 2018 10:33:57 GMT 1, My girl has been doing Invaders since age 6 (she got a kid book about Invader and other street artist and got hooked to Invader). After hitting walls in our house with Invaders made out of stickers, doing Invaders in loom bands, perler beads, etc. (even her house in Animal crossing is full of Invaders she was kind of obsessed ), she is now doing real mosaic Invaders. We have now 6 mosaics hidden in the house. Amazing how she can draw Invaders just from memory, without any help or model. Next challenge, to hit the school. She made two small Invaders using color of school and plan is to go there on weekend (with a glue gun) and hit the school (y). And last challenge, to do some new design for the guy himself and write a letter to him! Take her to Ravenna. Very easy to walk around. Lovely little town. Some pics here: urbanartassociation.com/thread/147812/dive-jedi-invaded-ravenna
Might do a shark some day. Should be fun!

Make your own Invader!, by deffe on Mar 15, 2018 1:31:32 GMT 1, I recently played around with creating a few small tile (3/8") invaders, specifically recreating a London invader from Covent Garden that I passed every day on the way to work. I decided to have a little fun with it and post it up in my office. It's currently been up for 2+ months and no one has said a thing ย
Nice one!

Thanks! Thatโs a fast answer! What tile size do you recommend? Looking to match the size of the usual invader kit, so not too big.

Thanks. I've admired the LCW and DCW for a while but never had the chance to sit in them prior to buying. Think I need to add them to our Eames collection !

Oops my mistake as I did not look close enough. My comfort comment was for the LCW and I see these are DCWs which with a table makes more sense.

Looking fwd to the fun of DIY! djtoine, i haven't received any reply from them after messaging them through facebook and by email. Do they usually reply quickly? I will be in Paris next week and the ideal for me would be to get their advices before ordering online. I don't think i will have time to go to their shop so I have no plan to go in their district.

Make your own Invader!, by pada1 on Apr 22, 2018 7:09:48 GMT 1, Working on my Invader now, few things i learned in the process that may interest any person who want to give it a try someday: - when buying the tiles, take you time, check the sizes of each tiles and if they are damaged. I think i should have spent an extra 30min to make sure i was alright with the size variations. Tiles are hand-cut so they are not perfect. You will most probably end with an imperfect grid at thed end. I love straight and aligned stuff but i think there is a limit to that on this mosaic exercise. - take extra pieces... like 20% more. During transportation, you may damage some of the tiles. I traveled from France to Japan. Even if i was careful, some of the tiles got damaged. - tiles from different colors may not have exactly the same size even if advertized as such. For instance my white and black tiles are slightly off by less than a millimeter... seems alright, however when you line a dozen of them (same color), you start creating misalignment between lines with different colors. - clean the tiles with water to remove dusts and dry them well with a towel before lining them up. - align the tiles in a reverse fashion on a flat surface. Use a board with at least one angle (i used a drawer that i took temporatily out of my closet) so you can push the tiles for aligning them. Once the mosaci is finished, you can spread some glue on your board (wood for me) and just push it down carefully. With a mild pressure, you may have some tiles not sticking well and falling...itโs fine as they have not all the same sickness. Just flip the board and glue the few that felt off. - the glue depends on your support, not the tiles. Wood board=wood glue. - imperfection is alright, thatโs the whole point of DIY and Art!
I will post some poctures someday :-) Meanwhile, if anyone has a good address to buy tiles in Tokyo (i prefer a retail shop to visit than online website, but any address will be fine), i am interested so feel free to share!
