To clarify, I am looking to purchase and was wondering what a reasonable price might be for them. I am also looking for the backstory because my interweb searches turned up zilch.

To clarify, I am looking to purchase and was wondering what a reasonable price might be for them. I am also looking for the backstory because my interweb searches turned up zilch. They were part of a show in SF. If you search you will find them. There were a bunch sold on eBay last year started at $200 and some sold for $800 each as part of a set - then some didnt sell at $300 after that. I might be wrong but i do not remember them being lithos. They are quite small. My best guess would be $200 if buying and $300 if selling. Retna's market is really strange right now - buy what you like!

Price Check - Retna Lithographs 2007, by mattgold on Mar 5, 2014 5:25:06 GMT 1, I'd say £800 range for a set of three would be a good deal... my only question is if his last release had an impact on prices or not.
In the intereste of full disclosure, I own a set and probably wouldn't sell for £800. =)
Good luck.

Retna's market is really strange right now - buy what you like! Why do you say Retna market is really strange? As someone who collects Retna originals and an occasional print... for about the last 8 year or so... it seems that his market is all over the place right now. Many pieces seem to have been stolen, gifted or being sold "for him." In the last couple of years it seems like he had handlers that were protecting his prices and buying things out there... they do not seem to be around anymore. His $50 giclee unsigned print is selling for $400 to $850. His most recent print set is going for up to $6k and you could get an original for that price even now. I just picked up an incredible piece for what I consider a great deal last week.

Price Check - Retna Lithographs 2007, by docholiday on Mar 5, 2014 15:57:32 GMT 1, Thank you for all the responses (even the jokers), I really appreciate the help. I enjoy these, but felt as though the seller was asking too much for the set (~$2700 USD). I am glad I asked the experts. Seems like it makes more sense to save up and buy and small original based on kultur's response...

Thank you for your answer. I'm not a Retna expert as I'm following him since a year. I heard about the stolen/gifted pieces but I didn't know it impacted his market that "big". As you just bought a new original for a good price, are you confident about the futur Retna's market?

I do not consider myself a Retna expert... just trying to pass along some info I have experienced to others out there. One of the stolen pieces I was offered was from Jason Zenga and his girlfriend that was easily tracked to New Image Art and Marsea who explained how it was stolen... so not sure if it counts.
He was very giving with his artwork to friends and acquaintances - for free or as favors - as apparently he still is. When those pieces come up for sale there seems to be issues with them unless you have no questions. Galleries do not seem to have any tracking on the pieces they sold... seems some got lost or never returned etc. Asking for provenance on many pieces I have found is replied with "It is a Retna" and that is it. Asking further questions gets no responses!
To answer your question...I am not confident about any market. I buy what I like and want to enjoy every day. I haven't sold a single piece of art in the 20+ years or so I have been collecting - and I have a large collection. If I did have to sell anything I think my Retna pieces would be the last things to go even if they were worth much less than I paid for them. Also the latest Giglee print he released for Braddock Tiles (I posted a thread about it here when it was released) is one of my favorites... looks amazing on the wall even right next to an original.
My personal opinion about his market is that his first bubble just popped, people working with/for him that saw him as a cash cow are now abandoning him. But... having tasted success he was seeking, he is probably even more motivated to be one of the most successful modern artists out there.

Thanks again for this interesting answer. I understand what you said about how you buy the art you like. I can do the same with works that are not "expensive", I just buy them because I like them and I really don't mind about the value, I just enjoy them. For more expensive works, I also always buy the one I like but I need to hope it's a good investment in case I need to sale them. Retna is part of the expensive works for me so it was intersting to yave your opinion as you know better than me about him. I have the feeling as you also do that his motivation will help him to go through this bad period...
