RIP Tony Benn, by maxf on Mar 14, 2014 12:35:19 GMT 1, RIP - as with Bob Crowe, I couldn't agree with his political stance, but I did respect him and his ability to stick to his guns and argue for what he believed in - without appearing to be self serving like most of the politicians now One of the last great politicians.
Also, I loved watching all of his adventures at the fancy dress shop when I was a kid.

So no matter how the Tories sniped at him he was always true to his beliefs regardless of how big his house was.

Tony Benn was born wealthy but what a lot do not know is that he was technically a Lord/Viscount but turned down his peerage so that he could be an MP. He was the first to do so. In hindsight, I agree. Not enough (well no) thought went into the post and would wish that anyone that isn't inherently evil (and Tony Benn clearly wasn't) should have respect afforded to them.
It would be difficult to justify an argument that he did not stand up for his beliefs.
