Banksy in Stockholm?, by hnkpnk on Mar 18, 2014 13:30:22 GMT 1, Swedish national tv is reporting that Banksy is coming to Stockholm on sunday for an exhibition similar to Barely Legal.
This is based on an anonymous letter sent to the culture department and is supposed to be "his first official unofficial exhbition" under the name "This must be the place".
I seriously doubt this but has anyone any information?

Quick Google translate: "The world-famous street artist will for the first time to Sweden to the end of the week to arrange a show in Stockholm.
In an anonymous letter sent to Culture News The editorial says that Banksy will come to Stockholm "his first official unofficial exhibition in Sweden."
The exhibition will be held somewhere on Hudiksvallsgatan in Stockholm, March 23 between 13-16, no detailed descriptions are not.
Anonymous source confirms A person with contacts in the international street art world have confirmed that the information is correct but wants to remain anonymous.
- I know it will happen but can not say anything more than that.
Will Banksy be in Stockholm?
- I have taken it for granted.
Will remind you of previous exhibition in LA In the letter, the exhibition in Stockholm will remind exhibition Barely Legal, held in Los Angeles, USA, 2006.
An exhibition of mixed works on the wall or canvas. Most spektakultรคrt was a color adorned elephant who was behind the fence in the middle of industrial premises.
Invites visitors to intrusion Exhibition in Stockholm is a follow up of Banksy's month-long stay in New York late last year.
A stay according to the letter he was very pleased with. This time, however, he is not that people who are not themselves present at the site should be able to take part in the exhibition, or as it says in the letter "create a false sense of being there."
"This exhibition will regain the temporary nature of this type of work and invite the audience to the infringer.""

Banksy in Stockholm?, by Neate Michael on Mar 18, 2014 13:41:42 GMT 1, It would be nice given I live in Stockers. But lets face it, someone is having a laugh and svt has fallen for it....
There are some galleries on Hudiksvallsgatan and it would seem more likely to me that one of them may have bought a few prints to flog at inflated prices, rather than the man himself.

Banksy in Stockholm?, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2014 14:25:46 GMT 1, I think this is probabaly a commerical excercise rather than a true Banksy exhibition - I cant see bansky doing a bit of blatant PR like this in advance - he does like to keep things a bit discreet innit - its not like hes needs the money and it would be a rather oddly placed distraction from the current Syria stuff going on
happy to be proved wrong though

Banksy in Stockholm?, by hnkpnk on Mar 18, 2014 15:00:18 GMT 1, The news is spreading fast in Sweden as it's the national tv as the source. A lot of newspapers is reprinting it on their sites.
I agree that it's not legit, but it would be nice to have something concrete to comment.

Banksy in Stockholm?, by Neate Michael on Mar 18, 2014 16:47:32 GMT 1, I emailed the writer of the article on SVT, saying that it was unlikely Banksy is behind this, and she said:
I understand your question, we had the same thought when we first read the letter.
We've asked a person with great insight in the โstreetartworldโ who confirmed that it's true that Banksy will come to Sweden and we've decided to trust him.

Banksy in Stockholm?, by hnkpnk on Mar 19, 2014 12:14:25 GMT 1, There are some speculation that it's Akay and Klisterpeter behind it. They are street artists from Stockholm that's been around almost as long as Banksy. Let's hope this is true and that it's a prank instead of some gallery.
www.dn.se/kultur-noje/axel-bjorklund-ar-det-verkligen-banksy-som-kommer/
Translated via Google:
COMMENT . It was on Tuesday that the news that one of the art world's biggest names, the British street artist Banksy exhibit in Stockholm landed on the country's culture editors in the form of an anonymous letter .
Half a day later, question marks remain over the zeros in the prices of Banksy's works.
Will he ? What is the kind of exhibition that will take place on Hudiksvallsgatan - more specific address than the capital's gallery street number one ( in addition misspelled in the letter ) is not given - on Sunday at 13-16 ? And have it all with Banksy to do?
Giant companies JCDecaux and Clear Channel asserts that Banksy does not advertise with them, even though advertising demonstrably sitting on their light boards . On the net claiming someone that the posters have been put up illegally by Stockholm artists Akay and Klister-Peter .
The two 40 -year-old street artists are veterans of the Stockholm graffiti scene and participated last year in an exhibition at Kulturhuset in Stockholm (where Klister-Peter marked integrity by spraying his signature along the base of the obelisk at Sergel Square , visible from the exhibition window) . It would not be surprising if the two are connected if Banksy exhibit in town - they have previously had contact . It explains , in fact, a lot. But it might as well be an art coup that occurs without Banksy's involvement , albeit with his good memory .
The mailing of the exhibition came in a handwritten old envelope from SJ. Train memorabilia is popular in graffiti circles but does not feel as clear as a bell in Banksy's aesthetic world . The writing reminds definitely more about Akays than about Banksy's own . Nowhere in Banksy's official online channels is something about the exhibition.
It is alleged in the letter that the exhibition is Banksy's first in Stockholm , but already in 2005 he participated in a street art art exhibition at restaurant General Gallery in Stockholm .
Some of Banksy's most high-profile projects in recent times has resulted in meta- stamp. In the Oscar-nominated documentary " Exit through the gift shop" - a sort of 00 -century version of Orson Welles classic art spoof film " B as in scam ' - we meet the artist " Mr. Brainwash " whose exhibition in Los Angeles, despite clearly limited originality , attracting record crowds thanks to a post on Banksy's website. During a show in New York last year was sold Banksyverk for bargain prices , but speculators did not know who was the author until time of purchase was over.
Banksy's name is today greater than himself , which is often manifested as false Banksykonst be for real . Either way , this is a campaign entirely in Banksy's spirit. And now when we established culture media immediately went into spin may well be regarded as the art exhibition opened.

Banksy in Stockholm?, by Deleted on Mar 19, 2014 14:20:21 GMT 1, So its not a bansky art happening then. Kudos to the boys who have hyped this up - if they manage to show their own stuff & get get people coming along to check it out , then its good work. if however it is a gallery flogging a few manky prints and discussing the works in hushed tones, then its a bit rubbish innit. If however there is free piss on offer, given Scandi alcohols prices, then I would go along just for a cheap night out.
Thye ought to host a secret bambi exhibition- that would get the culturally literate up their arse stockholm idiotariat buzzing with excitement.
peace

Rumoured Stockholm Banksy show 'a fake' Published: 21 Mar 2014 23:43 GMT+01:00 Updated: 21 Mar 2014 23:43 GMT+01:00
Elusive street artist Banksy has โnothing to doโ with an exhibition supposedly taking place in Stockholm at the weekend, the artistโs publicist has confirmed.
Banksy, you are not welcome in Stockholm! (21 Mar 14) Banksy set for Stockholm street art show (18 Mar 14)
โThis is not his show,โ publicist Jo Brooks told The Local on Friday, referring to Swedish media reports about an exhibition scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 23rd on Hudiksvallsgatan in Stockholm.
โThis is a fake. Itโs not Banksy. He has nothing to do with it.โ
News of the show was first reported on Tuesday after Sveriges Television (SVT), TT, and several major newspapers received an anonymous letter titled "Banksy in Stockholm: This must be the placeโ.
โThis exhibit is going to reclaim the temporary nature of this type of work and invite the public themselves to trespass,โ the letter read, claiming it would be "his first official unofficial exhibition in Sweden".
A source with links to the international street arts scene told SVT it should be โtaken as a givenโ that Banksy would be in Stockholm.
But Brooks, who has long handled public and media relations for the British artist, was adamant that Banksy had no involvement with the show and was not coming to Stockholm.
โWhoeverโs behind it is just doing this to get publicity, itโs pretty obvious to me,โ she told The Local.
She added that she was โsurprisedโ that not one Swedish journalist had contacted her since the story broke in Sweden on Tuesday.
โI havenโt gotten a single call about this,โ she said.
Since coming to prominence in the 1990s, Banksy has been dubbed a 'guerilla' artist for his work which is often controversial. Celebrities who have snapped up his work include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Banksy in Stockholm?, by arctistic on Mar 23, 2014 18:34:35 GMT 1, So I was at the exhibition, and it can all be concluded in one picture:
It was actually not bad at all the first 35 minutes.
I would say a couple of thousand ppl had showed up at Hudiksvallsgatan. A guy in trainers shows up at 13:00 and blows in his wistlepipe and everyone follows him a couple of hundred meters to another location. Some good work there even if not Banksy. But after 35-40 minutes someone decided to take a can from a room, and after that everyone went mental. Rockabilly grls and hipters taking whathever they could take. Even the fkkn real living mice (from a box) was taken by the normally so well behaved swedes. The shit I saw today....awww. Lost some respect for humanity.
