Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by sierrahotel on Mar 21, 2014 14:11:17 GMT 1, This might seem like a bizarre question - but could some Faile fans put into words why they love these guys?
I know we all have different tastes - but I can usually see what makes an artist special (skill, originality, humour etc), even if it's not to my own taste - but I'm not sure I see what these guys bring to the table that differentiates them from other comic-book style artists. (I quite like the way they do some originals on little distinct wooden cubes.. granted..)
I know many of you love them, so I'm keen to hear why - I might start seeing something I've been missing until now.

You summed it up perfectly, when you said 'we all have different tastes...'

I'm not desperate to like them guys - and it's great we all have different tastes, but there are very eloquent explanations of why people like some marmite artists like Stik on the forum - was curious to see if Faile fans could put into words why they pay big money for their stuff.

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by fairplay1974 on Mar 21, 2014 15:05:14 GMT 1, I spent years not liking Bast, then saw some in the flesh that 'wow'ed me.... But I didn't need anyone else to explain it or justify why they like it... You have to figure it out for yourself, see it for yourself or not... Simple!
An eloquent explanation is going to be one of two things in my opinion, completely personal to that individual, or absolute tosh!

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by Happy Shopper on Mar 21, 2014 15:08:10 GMT 1, Have you seen their prints in person? That might help... All the paint layers and texture. I don't think their work often has a powerful message, but their style is unique... it's been copied, but they still do it best. As said above "They make purdy pictures"... and I think that's actually very true. They were graphic designers and have a great skill with composition, typography and image.

Not because someone had to justify to you the way he painted a particular letter 'A' was great to them!

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by Deleted on Mar 21, 2014 15:23:48 GMT 1, It's all about marketing and to some degrees hype.
Lazarides describes them as www.lazinc.com/artist/faile
"FAILE's art reaches beyond the urban art niche to touch a generation. The duo's work uses imagery associated with popular culture to examine complex, and often neglected, metaphysical issues facing the artists' epoch. Spirituality, heroism, unconditional love, a greater moral purpose – and equally a lack of these – are among the concepts that the duo brings up so eloquently in their artistic conversation. In the posturing world of urban art, with its harsh motifs, they represent a passionate sensitivity that appeals across the gender divide."
While others would say they just cut up and paste images together in an artform that used to be called scrapbooking.
Creating mish mash images which are Ok visually but nothing special and because of the popularity of people like Lichtenstein etc Failes stuff is viewed as high art but it and a lot of so called gallery promoted and sold street art today is nothing more than kitch.
Eine appeals to people who like pretty colours and know nothing about signwriting fairground signs and custom painted lettering on 1970's funny cars.

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by Deleted on Mar 21, 2014 15:50:36 GMT 1, There is a lot of waffle talked about art and when it boils down to it taste in art is a totally individual thing, just like music/food/clothes etc. I like Faile because they remind of old vintage movie posters, they have a classic feel to them and if you haven't seen one in the flesh you really should, they are stunning IMO, but like all artists I don't like all there stuff. There's hype involved around all art but the real deal artists will still be sought after and have a fan base long after all the hyping ends. Some artists work looks great as an individual piece but looses some of it's impact when you see a collection together, I would love a room filled with Failes, ceiling and all!!

Exactly! No eloquent explanation needed on why someone else liked it.... You saw it in the flesh and it reached out to 'you'!

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by Dellboyy on Mar 21, 2014 16:35:32 GMT 1, Yeah, as said, it's completely personal, and unexplainable sometimes why something grabs you and other things don't. Before i was into the whole urban art thing, a friend pointed me to POW, and rather than Banksy or anything else around on the site in those days, it was the Faile's that grabbed me. So my first print ended up being a Butterfly girl from the Faile store, which i still have, and will be the last thing i ever sell!

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by disdig1 on Mar 21, 2014 17:26:12 GMT 1, simply put as others have said their work is beautiful. their prints are unlike any others i have ever come across, they are more originals than prints. i love the narratives they create within their work, at times its funny but has tones of more serious issues as well.
growing up i loved comic books so that also plays a part of drawing me to them initially. sure others have done that but the way they do it just has an original feel to me, like i have never seen it done before. also their work is very loud, big and in your face which i also like.
to top it off the patricks are great people and very accessible which puts them over the top as two of my favorite artists out their working!

Faile fans - tell me why you love them!, by cutiehoney on Mar 21, 2014 17:31:40 GMT 1, As said before…once you see their work in the flesh, you are hooked. Faile works are successful across all mediums…street, paper, canvas, wood, sculpture, collage, etc. They carry off huge shows…the Faile show via LAZ at the school building was incredible…(the massive torn canvases, the prayer wheels, the marble bunny boy)….their Temple in Lisbon was the star of the show….their recent museum show in Dallas. They are more than "boy"art….they have passion and humour….nostalgia, yet of our time……they have a certain charm (bunny boy) …..and they can be powerful. The quality of all their work is first class (Museum quality), their shows are professional and amazing……and as a bonus, they are lovely gentlemen.
I don't like every image they produce…but one could say that of any artist…including the hallowed Banksy!
Definitely the favourites in my collection…..and I am always looking forward to seeing what they are creating next.

Lazarides describes them as www.lazinc.com/artist/faile "FAILE's art reaches beyond the urban art niche to touch a generation. In the posturing world of urban art, with its harsh motifs, they represent a passionate sensitivity that appeals across the gender divide." While others would say they just cut up and paste images together in an artform that used to be called scrapbooking.
I have a degree in graphic design and I know quite a bit about typography and I Love Eine.
