I've just left a left a canvas with a gallery to be stretched and on the invoice I've just noticed it says 'Boxing of frame with foamboard'. Can somebody clarify what the foamboard bit means? Is that a protective backing of some sort?

There is no need for backing of canvas... maybe to adhere it to foamboard, but that would be odd to me. |

Check with them but what I think they are doing is putting a layer of foam board between the frame and the canvas to stop he frame damaging the canvas.
As say this is what I think NOT what I know so would advise you contact them quickly before they start and they I am sure will happily take you through the process
