London shows and such?, by mmmike on Mar 26, 2014 18:38:03 GMT 1, I know threads like this happen all the time but I can't help it. I'm going to London for the first time ever and i'd really appreciate any advice on things to see. Primarily any art shows that happen to be on while I'm there or galleries that have lots up on display. Also extra thanks if someone can give me advice on vegan restaurants.
I'll be there April 10 to 20th, But I'm doing the marathon on 13th so that weekend is mostly a write off.
I'm already planning to go to the Mobstr show and of course all the main museums. What else is going on?
Thanks in advance.

London shows and such?, by doyle on Mar 26, 2014 20:53:49 GMT 1, 'Food for Thought' is great if you are seeing any shows near Covent Garden, WC2 & Soho, W1. It has been going strong a long time and i try and pop in whenever i'm in Central. It's primarily a vegetarian place but do Vegan dishes too, all cooked on site. foodforthought-london.co.uk/
If you go to see anything North London, try the inSpiral Vegan Cafe, open till late, in Camden,NW1 gets v.busy on the weekends though. If weather is nice, you can sit by the canal.http://www.inspiral.co/cafe/
good luck for the Marathon too

London shows and such?, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2014 8:55:55 GMT 1, Chloe Early's debut show opens at The Outsiders next week which should be good.
I'd also recommend Martin Creed's 'Whats the point of it?' at the Hayward - very entertaining. You can also see the big Phlegm and ROA pieces there on your way in.
You'll just miss the Cyrcle show at Stolen Space which is a shame - very underrated IMO - not discussed much here.

London shows and such?, by mmmike on Apr 7, 2014 14:57:03 GMT 1, Thanks all. I'm just catching up on this thread. I will try to check out those restaurant recommendations and secret 7.
I'm for sure going to the Martin Creed show and likely that Banksy elephant play.
Which private galleries are worth going to see? I'd love to see some Banksy pieces and such. I'm not looking to buy just looking so not fussed about the prices. I'd just like a nice selection and friendly staff ideally. Or is there a section of town that has a few galleries? I understand the place where I'm staying it close to Jealous gallery. But don't know where anything else is or what is worth making a trip to see. Sometimes online presence has little relation to the physical gallery's quality.

If you do the above then eating at Union Street Cafe (complete with art from Stolen Space) is good - make sure you have a drink in the downstairs bar and see the dface stencil collection on the walls.

London shows and such?, by Feral Things on Apr 7, 2014 22:03:26 GMT 1, The National Gallery is my favourite spot in London but it sounds like you've already got this covered. If you like JMW Turner's work then I would definitely recommend Tate Britain and there's also a Turner exhibition on at the National Maritime Museum. The Courtauld Gallery is a real gem and definitely worth checking out.
White Cube have a great Darren Almond show on at the moment at their Bermondsey space and PACE have a beautiful show by Liang Yuanwei. Victoria Miro often have interesting and challenging shows too.
