Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by mmmike on Sept 4, 2014 1:20:24 GMT 1, Don't read into what's not there zach spent a week or so in NYC 10 days after different strokes He liked the spot and painted it, clueless to the fact cost would be pissed if he put a roller on his paste up No statement or anything just zach doing his stuff because he liked the wall. In Newcastle last week all he did was look at walls saying I could do this and that as we walked to art shop and out on the town and stuff! Cost was right about he should not have done it but zach did not even realise it would cause a storm in a tea cup on Instagram When we walked in Brooklyn to gallery etc all u see is cost rollers and paste ups there great. Its almost hard to find a good spot he ain't taken! This is a great example of what is wrong with these young print artists IMO. He goes out on the street to advertise his prints and has no clue when it comes to street art and has no respect for artists that have in this case spent decades putting in work on the streets. COST worked for those walls they weren't given to him.
Are you really surprised that in Brooklyn the good walls have already been hit? There are hundreds of artists out there. Are they supposed to save walls for tourists?
Your comment about him in Newcastle, is telling. He talked about all the things he could do on the street (but didn't) as he walked to the art $hop. Go get that money!

Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by Deleted on Sept 4, 2014 2:27:57 GMT 1, The only two things that I can seem to gather from all this is the below:
1. Zach didn't think the work would be considered offensive, especially to COST; simply incorporated it as part of the piece's background. This may have been naive given #2.
2. COST takes things very personally and reacts passionately (i.e. shitting in the Mcdonalds, which really makes no sense when you think about it for more than two seconds). He saw it and flipped a shit, thinking Zach was was disrespecting and calling him an old dinosaur, when really it may have never even crossed Zach's mind.
All-in-all, hard to tell. Obviously if it was a purposeful insult, then it's a fight-starter by Zach, but if Zach just thought COST wouldn't mind one of his million paste-ups being sort of painted over then it seems like COST is the one who's starting shit over basically nothing.
I also think the idea of COST getting pissed off when someone goes over something he owns/created is priceless given how he made his name wheat-pasting over the work product of others; you can't make up irony like that.

London has a bigger street art fan base.

How do u say that with such conviction
He has never advertised his prints on the street, but u say he goes put to paint to do that, what a insult to him have you bothered to look at his street work
Only one I can see that says that is enjoy but he was a kid in a sweet shop with that stencil he loves it!
You throw insults around so easy with no back up to your statements apart from the solid belief that artists are all money grabbing twats now that make prints and art for money and are driven by it
You could not be more wrong about virtually all of them
If there are thousands If not 10,000 plus cost pastes it is hard not to go over one and cost must have went over someone too now and again it happens
It is a storm in a tea cup but u use it to bash zach, what a shame for new artists when you have older buyers who are so cynical and post crap online for newer buyers to maybe get the wrong idea
My comment about Newcastle u twist he did not stop working for 5 days 8am - 10pm, just no time or energy to paint
Best example I can give is dance music back in 88 at a rave I thought this will go massive, did not dream for a second in 2014 more than 25 years later people still go to raves etc and there bigger now!
Easy to say music was better back in the day etc these new guys all sell outs etc but truth is there not they love what they do!

"He has never advertised his prints on the street" and yet I think this photo below in LA proves him pretty blatantly advertising a print on the street... all down the block crossing everything out... is it not?
Now... so how do you say that with such conviction? Selective memory when money is to me made?

He goes out on the street to advertise his prints and has no clue when it comes to street art and has no respect for artists that have in this case spent decades putting in work on the streets. COST worked for those walls they weren't given to him. Are you really surprised that in Brooklyn the good walls have already been hit? There are hundreds of artists out there. Are they supposed to save walls for tourists? Your comment about him in Newcastle, is telling. He talked about all the things he could do on the street (but didn't) as he walked to the art $hop. Go get that money! How do u say that with such conviction He has never advertised his prints on the street, but u say he goes put to paint to do that, what a insult to him have you bothered to look at his street work Only one I can see that says that is enjoy but he was a kid in a sweet shop with that stencil he loves it! You throw insults around so easy with no back up to your statements apart from the solid belief that artists are all money grabbing t**ts now that make prints and art for money and are driven by it You could not be more wrong about virtually all of them If there are thousands If not 10,000 plus cost pastes it is hard not to go over one and cost must have went over someone too now and again it happens It is a storm in a tea cup but u use it to bash zach, what a shame for new artists when you have older buyers who are so cynical and post crap online for newer buyers to maybe get the wrong idea My comment about Newcastle u twist he did not stop working for 5 days 8am - 10pm, just no time or energy to paint Best example I can give is dance music back in 88 at a rave I thought this will go massive, did not dream for a second in 2014 more than 25 years later people still go to raves etc and there bigger now! Easy to say music was better back in the day etc these new guys all sell outs etc but truth is there not they love what they do! Not really agreeing with mmmike at all, but I just cant believe the crap that goes on here especially when there is money to be made. "He has never advertised his prints on the street" and yet I think this photo below in LA proves him pretty blatantly advertising a print on the street... all down the block crossing everything out... is it not? Now... so how do you say that with such conviction? Selective memory when money is to me made?

Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by Graffiti Prints on Sept 4, 2014 9:42:22 GMT 1, I do agree with you on that. Plus, I don't think Zach is on the streets to promote his prints. If he would have done that, he better does his street art in London instead of Newcastle. London has a bigger street art fan base. Do you not see that he's only been getting up when he has something to sell? That's been pretty apparent recently. what a load of tosh he gets up as much as he can, did you see the living walls in atlanta he did a few weeks ago?

he is in Vilnius next at the festival there, it seem's to me you look from a far and see what you want to see not what is actually happening....

It would just be nice if you would just admit what you wrote was wrong as shown in the photo. He has blatantly advertised his prints on the street, which you said he never has, and many artists do. I think he has talent - just try and use facts.
It is about money because you make money off of him, which is why it seems you are regularly defending him; not for some love of Ernest or what an amazing person you think he is. I also think that artists deserve more money than they get and often it is because galleries or "galleries" like yourself get more of a percentage then they should. You are also dealing with an artist who sets his own prices for what you sell... congrats on that as in the end the consumer is the one who spends more while lining your pockets.

I defend him as he is my friend and I respect his work and him so much
Your comments re advertising prints via street pieces I don't agree with for the reasons stated above
If you paint a piece on the street should you not print it?
Im a print house artists usually come to me or we are hooked up somehow.
You do not see the work that goes behind making a print and make assumptions that just are not there

Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by Deleted on Sept 4, 2014 10:51:11 GMT 1, Earnest seems like a guy who genuinely loves to mark art. He's probably painted hundreds of walls so I think it would be naive to use one or two of his images that became prints as an example of his integrity

You do not see the work that goes behind making a print and make assumptions that just are not there GP if he is your friend then great and I cant hold that against you arguing for your friend. Yet you still have to understand that you represent him in a way as a print house and no matter what there is a bias there financially that regardless if you believe in your argument or not you will back up your percentage of the investement you have with the prints you release with him unless he hires you to do a print and you are not paid a percentage of sales. I assume that is not the case though and again it doesnt really matter for the real point of this whole thread. Just dont act shocked when people call you out on it. Outis, yeah remember that.
Back to the point, regardless if it was a homage or lack of judgement. You don't mess with Cost in NY unless your with him or associated with him. You dont try to collaborate with a legend without his permission. Yes he didn't diss the wall, but he clearly used Cost as a Prop to elevate his wall as he could have chosen 100 other walls without a Cost paste up to paint. Maybe he was Naive to think Cost would be flattered that he incorporated his paste up into his piece. He learned quik that it wasn't a compliment and Cost didnt appreciate him using his name to elevate his street cred, as that is what the piece clearly comes off as. I will not argue about how good the artist is or his history, I only comment on this incident.
If he truly wanted to collaborate he needs to pay his dues like Space invader has and then through acquaintances and meeting each other in person maybe get the OK to use Costs name in your street art, till then your just like any other Brand trying to gain credibility off an artist who has put in decades of work. Again I know nothing about this artist and I am not dissing him at all just stating my take on this incident.

The fact that COST is up everywhere is exactly why he deserves respect. I'm not sure why you don't get that respect is a big thing in street art culture and that is earned not given.
I have seen some of Zach's street art online. I did have to search for it because all the focus is on the prints. You don't see his stuff here much unless it is about prints for sale.
How many years was he doing doing street art before selling his work?
I think Zack has a lot to learn. I do wish Zach all the success in the world.

Someone give him Style Wars dvd and some graffiti/street art books so he can at least read up on the scene he is making money from. wow you could not be more wrong. plonker. What's a plonker?

Hey I don't represent my artists really not like a gallery does, I make prints for them and sell them online.
I do become friends and help them out and defend them. Represent is a word I associate with a agent or gallery selling originals exclusively.
My artists would not describe themselves as represented by me at best I'm there publisher
Everything else I agree with he should not have went over cost it's in the un written laws!
He did it for placement and not getting spotted (it's a big time consuming piece) not to go over cost you have to believe that as it's true I asked, but I understand totally he is pissed with Ernest

You are representing the artist/representatives though, you're selling original screen prints on release on behalf of the artist, if you were producing the prints and the artists sold them themselves then you would be the printer solely, not knocking yous, that's just the way it is

Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by edsi on Sept 4, 2014 12:26:18 GMT 1, GP if he is your friend then great and I cant hold that against you arguing for your friend. Hey I don't represent my artists really not like a gallery does, I make prints for them and sell them online. I do become friends and help them out and defend them. Represent is a word I associate with a agent or gallery selling originals exclusively. My artists would not describe themselves as represented by me at best I'm there publisher Everything else I agree with he should not have went over cost it's in the un written laws! He did it for placement and not getting spotted (it's a big time consuming piece) not to go over cost you have to believe that as it's true I asked, but I understand totally he is pissed with Ernest I have a feeling he wasn't alone when he did this piece over cost, zach can be forgiven for being naive. BUT The people that were his hosts, stood by him, took pictures, shot movies should have informed him as things might be very different back in asia and he is a young lad but really at the end of the day this are the basic rules of the street when it comes down to it. You just don't shit on someone elses piece and especially NOT cost!
I am sure he has learnt his lesson, unfortunately the hard way ... but at the same any publicity is good publicity as they say .. so maybe that was all part of it ... using the street cred of cost ... although it may have backfired ... hard to tell.
So if you are not representing him graffitti print, then who is?
