Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by FΠ― on Apr 11, 2015 11:49:53 GMT 1, Why does it matter how long it takes. 'some' artists stencil something in half an hour and then charge Β£100k for it. that is a really silly observation. It clearly matters to the management as they stated in their initial post. And I know you need to hype this artist to flip it, but don't expect everyone to just comment 'love it'. The execution is bad, the idea is bad, the price is insulting. Though now i'll probably be banned for disagreeing with a forum guardian. The ones listed at GP...did GP buy them and then will sell them on their ebay account as per usual? Disagree all you like, it is a discussion. however its wrong to be defensive and call every good comment a hype just because you do not agree

But then again, your first comment about time of painting and charging a price is not valid in my opinion. I remember an English artist that didnt spend any minute on his art, yet makes millions.
Fella, I beg you to read the posts before responding. The gallery emphasised that this took the artist four days with the implication being that's a lot of work. And before you get to ridiculous comparisons, whatever artist you're thinking of? Do they have more than three print releases and a few group shows to their name? It's not the point how long it took, that's just a funny detail the gallery put in, the point is that an artist whose career spans about four days is charging a shit load of money. And you know why? He's hooked up with a management team who have an interest in extracting as much as they can. Which is their (and his) prerogative. But to pretend this is well priced or even artistically appealing is to have your head in the sand. Anyway, back to the other board.

Perhaps I am reading not well, or as non-native english speaker I do not understand, but from the gallery's message here on the thread I can't see that the gallery emphasis this four days work is a lot work according to them.
I buy art because I buy it of the work itself not how much time an artist has spent on making the print (if the artist even makes the print him/herself). I am not discussing if the price of this work is too much, I just don't think your thoughts of the physical days of work on art in combination of the revenue it makes is valid.

Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by coller on Apr 11, 2015 17:45:29 GMT 1, These prices seem perfectly fine, although if they had a non-handfinished version for less than half price then I'd be more suspicious of why they are charging as much for these. Hard to defend Zach's handfinishing style as meriting a much higher price when he is doing his squiggle-thing as the handfinishing.
A lot of people think something should be worth more because it's on a piece of wood, even if it's still printed on there; that makes no sense to me. But overall I don't see much to argue over here.

Maybe I don't get it, but why are these so good and commanding such a high price.

I wish all the best for EZ. He is a great guy with lots of talent. I am sure this will still sell out.

Ernest Zacharevic π±πΉ Penang, Malaysia Street Art , by Deleted on Apr 13, 2015 10:39:12 GMT 1, This is a very poor example of an artist's current popularity being exploited, the "rushed" and simplicit execution takes away from The image, it certainly does not add to it...
And the purpose of an HPM should at most times emphasise the artwork not be thrown in to justify a higher price? This is not a healthy approach imo..
Another great artist with talent whom In 4 yrs will just get lost in the shuffle..
I look back at a number of artists that people were loosing their hats over just a few yrs back and tent are hardly ever mentioned anymore and now we have the same.. these galleries see the hype with arusts like.S.chevrier, Ernest, etc..
And these are artists who, if managed right could have potentially long sustaining careers instead their being treated similar to a pop artist a Britney spears if you will, milk the cow while you can before people get bored and take notice of the next best thing.
Sorry for the rant but it's upsetting seeing great talent get utilized for the hype/profit aspect.

for sale two prints that aren't going to make the wall:
Roamcouch - Revolution Β£300 + postage & pp
Ernest Zacharevic - Different Strokes Β£300 + postage & pp
The Zacharevic is still in a tube, only took them out once to inspect. The Roamcouch has been stored flat since purchase. These are stock photo's but I could take a pic of the actual print if needed. Offers will be considered. Based in the Netherlands but will ship worldwide.
Cheers.

For similar prices the Dennings so much nicer, with much better sell through. And all original one of a kind.

Expensive and looks unfinished, don't really know why the kid is stretching his face or why. I'd be interested at half the price or if he they looked liked they took more than 5 mins of his attention.

Not defending him but maybe just my two cents worth..
I actually don't think he is 'copying' mondrian. If you take a look at how he basically painted each panel and then grouped them together, each and every piece is an individual portrait by itself. I liked how he made use of an iconic image and turned it into a 'playground' for the children.
Also, this is probably the second time this image is painted in public spaces (the print is really just part of the original outdoor one). I did ask him why did he choose this image again for this commission (and whether he was asked to repeat the image at the request of the hotel owner) and he said he created this based in what he wanted to propose and paint first and foremost. Isn't the freedom to choose what to paint off the back of your head something to be encouraged? I am guessing in the context of the space he was given to paint, the nature of the establishment and the fact that he was working around the idea creating a canvas versus a building facade, he feels it suitable to have this image repeated in an indoor space. As long as he doesn't do this a third time, this seems fine in my eyes.
