Former Yarm School student Olivia Moullaali sold a painting which depicts a scene from Thornton Low Farm, near Thornton for £700
It’s a great day for any artist when they’re told that someone is interested in their work.
So when 22-year-old Olivia Moullaali heard that a businessman wanted to buy a painting for his “boat”, she was delighted.
And when it turned out that the businessman was Formula 1 tycoon Eddie Jordan and the boat was his £32m super-yacht, she was stunned.
Olivia, from Brass Castle Lane, Middlesbrough, was displaying her paintings for sale having just passed a degree with First Class Honours at Wimbledon College of Art and Design.
She said: “It was at our degree show.
“My class friend’s mum is an interior designer. She came to the show and took an interest in one of my paintings called Echo.
“She took it and said that somebody might want to buy it.”
When Olivia was told that for £700, a businessman wanted to buy the painting, which depicts a scene from Thornton Low Farm, near Thornton, she was over the moon.
She said: “My friend didn’t give me any of the details about it so I just thought, ‘cool I’ve sold a painting’.
“Then my friend sent me a photo of the yacht and told me it was Eddie Jordan who had bought it.”
When Olivia’s mum, Alison, saw the pictures and heard who had bought her daughter’s painting, she couldn’t believe her ears or her eyes.
