Record Store Day con..., by Deleted on Apr 21, 2014 14:03:13 GMT 1, RSD is a sham. 3 independent stores up here and they barely got any of the exclusive releases.
Luckily I found a copy of Wurster & Sharpling "Rock, Rot, and Rule" for a reasonable price online, though the point of RSD is to support LOCAL stores

Record Store Day con..., by kultur on Apr 21, 2014 17:32:27 GMT 1, RSD is not a sham. I got all of the releases I was after. Just took a couple of hours waiting in line.
Sure some record stores will hold back something... it would be silly to think that the owner or big customers wouldnt have something held for them. I guess there are some that hold back more... but really even for 300% profit it probably isnt worth it for them or their reputation.

Record Store Day con..., by iamzero on Apr 21, 2014 17:46:56 GMT 1, Maybe you should look at the many people that disagree dude and the proof that Townsend Records have been putting them on ebay and gloating about it. Even artists have started to see the ebay profiteering.

Got the ones i was after from birmingham...... nirvana, clint mansell (previous pop will eat itself) albums and some others..... RSD is a great idea but you can never stop idiots from holding back then selling for double or triple the price. Its the same as flipping art but in vinyl terms......

Record Store Day con..., by iamzero on Apr 21, 2014 17:56:17 GMT 1, It all depends on what you collect too as to its profitability. But for such a large store to be called out surely something has to be done or the whole thing simply falls apart. It really is a disgrace.

Dont buy anything from the shop or online and let your friends do the same. The only way is to starve turnover. There are many small record shops out there who would love the custom and would treat you better.....

Record Store Day con..., by Deleted on Apr 21, 2014 18:30:59 GMT 1, maybe sham is too harsh a word, but something aint right. I'm friends with the manager of one of the stores, and they were only sent a handful of 45's. Another of the local stores only received a small bunch of releases and none of the more sought after ones.
In these cases, I don't think anybody was holding anything back - these stores just weren't supplied with the good releases, probably because they don't buy enough from the same distributors that fund RSD.
