The method of his last release through 13 Press was changed at the last minute (supposed to be a cart system, and at drop time changed to an email the gallery and we will take it as a first come first served system)...most likely because all the prints were sold to family, friends and VIP before the actual drop time.ย When people questioned the release and what had gone down on instagram, Retna got real hood and started calling people out (note foodrap is a great member on here as well as documented Retna collector and owner of a well respected sneaker company)...see image below:  Also...people who did email were offered "AP" sets of the $600 prints for $5,000.ย The whole thing was really shady and poorly handled.ย Left most people on here with a sour taste for the artist and the gallery.
I also didn't know exactly what happened so thanks for the explanation, does seem super sketch. Can't really see who is saying what in the screen shot but from your description would definitely have second thoughts about putting money into that person (retna/gallery's) pockets.

Not sure how many more showed up after by I didn't leave until about 2:30 and hadn't noticed anybody else show up. No issues whatsoever at the park, actually a gorgeous day spent sitting in the shade. Sales tax was charged so the actual total for the print was $1309. Already dropped it off at the framers.

Plus, all the APs are still available for sale at $2k and HPM for $3k via email, so this turns out to be a massive burner for the flippers. $1.2k for that size and Retna's name definitely not worth it.

All letters and words had to start as squiggles and shapes at some point. I find Retna's work aesthetically pleasing. I can't read it though. I was just curious if anyone could read it. And if there was a message. |
