New York Top 5, by br1stol on Dec 30, 2007 18:25:57 GMT 1, Hi all.
Been around on here for a while, but first 'new thread' by me so i hope it might be helpful for a few others as well as me... So i am taking my lady to NYC next month as a surprise 30th bday gift. I guess there maybe a few NY heads on here, and im sure a few others have been out there before - i cant wait!
Just wondered if anyone had a short list to 'must do's' when we are there... Best gallery, attraction, restuarant, cafe, bar, club, etc... All advice would be most appreciated.
We will we staying in Manhattan at 42nd St - Times Sq. and staying for 5 days.
Many thanks!

Try Abercrombie & Finch at the something seaside (it will come back to me in a bit). It is on Manhattan island towards the bottom close ish to the statue of liberty. Imho it is better than the main store close to central park as it has some reduced items all year around.
Loads of great places to have a steak if your a meat eater. There is one off Times square (East Side) which has the cold room out front / in the window. Vegeterians nightmare, but for the more carniverous ;D
Gallery wise lots of interesting ones in Soho area and don't forget to go to Jonathan Levine (last time I was there the show was great, Jeff Soto, but you can't take pictures )
I'll try and think where else to go.
Final top tip taxi from the airport is cheap, but after that skip the taxi's on the island and buy a weeks underground ticket. Fast, reliable and saves a small fortune ;D

While you're on that street if you like trainers (which I do) check out Alife at 158 - there is no sign but find it and you'll be able to pick up some sweet kicks.

New York Top 5, by dodge on Dec 30, 2007 21:11:27 GMT 1, I went to the Mercer Bar and Restaurant in Soho. It was very pleasant indeed. Be sure to book in advance though, we only got in through a last minute cancellation.

New York Top 5, by markrobbo on Dec 30, 2007 21:27:43 GMT 1, Just got back having been there for the first time. Here's my top 10 must do:-
1. Rockefeller Centre Iceskating 2. Rainbow Rooms (in Rockefeller) 3. Capital Grille Steak Restaurant (at bottom of Chrysler, best steak in NYC). 4. Empire State Building (buy your tickets online beforehand) 5. Staten Island Ferry Trip to Statue of Liberty 6. Walk around Central Park 7. 5th Ave Shopping; Abercrombie & Fitch, Tiffany's (!!) and Apple are must visits. 8. Times Square at Night 9. Helicopter Tripe (well worth the 130 USD for 15 mins) 10. American Breakfast such as Bagels in a proper cafe
p.s. Macy's and Bloomingdales were a big let down and not in the same league as Harrods, Harvey Nicks or Selfridges.
Enjoy!

New York Top 5, by classy on Dec 30, 2007 22:32:24 GMT 1, If you want steak go to Peter Luger in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn - to go anywhere else for meat in nyc would be foolish - this neighborhood also has great street art, lots of faile, neck face, swoon, judith supine etc, just walk around. Make reservations at Luger far in advance. For a high class meal go to Union Square Cafe or the Gotham Bar and Grill.
