Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by connecta1 on Nov 21, 2012 11:28:38 GMT 1, This whole thread can be blamed on the expresso beans culture. Without them none of this would have happened. . Utter twaddle I've seen worse on here discussing hutch, hush, dface, stik, banksy et al ...absolutely. Bit of an obsession with this 'expresso beans culture' has our freerange, I genuinely don't see that much difference between the hype whipped-up on here and what goes on there (apart from the band/movie poster business, which admittedly is a bit odd)

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Petrusino on Nov 21, 2012 12:32:39 GMT 1, the geddes' talent is unbelivable, one of his works would not be bad in a famous european museum like louvre, uffizi ecc. the only think that i don't understand, is why in an UrbanArt forum we speak of him.... is a surrealist, iperrealist, or what?

Good point it's interesting how the forum focuses on Geddes and for a time Charming Baker and others that are excellent but hardly 'urban'.

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Deleted on Nov 21, 2012 12:50:42 GMT 1, Hang on we're going to get worked up about a descriptor for an art form that means close to nothing?
All it ever was a monetarisation mechanism for street art, hence any art that's sold for money could well be linked to it!

Completely agree. Think people are getting a tad touchy. It's art, its nice, enjoy it! ( here comes the negative respects).

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Deleted on Nov 21, 2012 13:00:27 GMT 1, No doubt Geddes is a talented artists, but what talent is there in churning out giclee prints and then charging the amount he does for them? Again it was Wallkandy, a street art forum that brought Geddes to a lot of the 'collectors' on the this forum.
On another low-brow art forum Geddes barely gets a mention. Beware of the emperor in new clothing - those with longer memories who care to admit will know exactly what I am saying.

$290 isnt an unreasonable price at all for a giclee a meter wide, even from an artist relatively unestablished in the grand scheme of things. i'm just glad the internet print hype train has finally stopped at the station of someone a bit more talented than usual, for once i'm not completely bewildered as to what the buyers are thinking

Completely agree with this- great to see pure artistic talent and ability get some love. Compared to the attention Stik, Moustache man or even Hirst get on here- dont get me wrong, I quite like their stuff, it's kind of amusing, I even have a spot print on the way, however I was churning out stuff like theirs in 1984 with my jumbo box of crayolas.
IMO Geddes, Francis, Harrington etc. are all 'proper' painters with enormous artistic ability- in a completely different league pure talent wise to a lot of others out there at the moment.

Hence Stik and MBW.. Geddes popularity has been a long slow rise, interest in his work stemming from something quite different to the generic urban art scene and far more to do with the "content" than form. Alienated, existential cosmonauts just perfect for the time. Think it simply touched something in the zeitgeist.

As articulate as ever Martyn. I had to look your last word up . I should have paid more attention in English. I think Geddes touches, both fine art and urban (due to his subjects). After all, Conor Harrington is a fine art academic, no one disputes his urban credentials when it comes to content.

The grout lines must have been put in with a spirit level......
10% or so of the release on ebay already before they've been received, I wonder if one of the artists within the community would give some commentary on whether this is representative of a successful release?
As a self representing artist, then surely the price should have been set to reward supporters and not speculators? An additional AU$200 per print would net $75 large...not to be sniffed at.
Hat off to Bmerel tho' as he seems genuinely chuffed to have bought one with the express intention of putting it on the wall.
