Affordable Hirst?, by fourputt on Jan 1, 2008 18:06:07 GMT 1, I am looking to add a piece by Damien Hirst to my collection. I have very little info on his work as I have just been turned on to it. Any suggestions as to pieces that are affordable to a beginning collector? Again, I have no idea on prices, would $1000 get me anything? I like the show posters and wallpaper that I've seen on ebay, but would like to get something a little smaller in release numbers. Are there any prints of his available? Any info or links to sites would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Affordable Hirst?, by afroken on Jan 1, 2008 18:51:47 GMT 1, The cheapest low editions I've seen are some of the less desirable 'In A Spin' (volume 1) etchings, which are in a edition of 68. They go for about £1,500, sometimes less. I've got one called 'In the Groove' from volume 2 and it's the best of the lot, but you'd pay quite a lot more for this one.

Affordable Hirst?, by loucastel on Jan 1, 2008 21:59:24 GMT 1, Hi, hirst is one of my favorite artists, the wallpaper on ebay is a bit of a rip off, as they buy it by the roll for about £1000 ,cut it up and sell it ,making a bloody good profit, trouble is I cant remember the name of the gallery to buy it from, also beware a lot of the signed books on there as they are snide. The show posters are great, doesnt really matter if they make more images of the same, they are just great things to have. even a lot of street art isnt actually limited editions, take trolleys for example. try th link a lot of the stuff on there is mega epensive or POA, but it gives you an idea of some of his work, also look out for things that came from his restaurant, the Pharmacy occasionally you can pick up some bargains. good luck.

Affordable Hirst?, by afroken on Jan 1, 2008 22:31:56 GMT 1, you can get the wallpaper from othercriteria.com. I had an email exchange with the guy who sells the wallpaper on eBay. Turns out it's not from the official run. He knows the guy who owns the printers that produced it and he bought a few sets from the back door. He'll sell you a whole roll for about £300.

Wow way to go ,I know the official stuff was about £1k a roll, the sellers on the bay are making a fortune with the snide stuff. Some guy was selling copys of Valium a while back, people were paying a lot of money too, bet they were really pissed off as they were tiny, and in the very small print it said signed by AN artist.
