They won't charge you tax if what you buy is shipped out of state. In almost all cases prices in North America are quoted before tax. |

You would only pay the tax on the item if you lived in that state your buying the art from. I live in Texas, so if I buy a piece of art here in Texas then I have to pay sales tax. Now if I bought that same piece of art from say a gallery in New York then I wouldn't have any sales tax to pay.

If you take possession of something in state... say California... you pay tax on top of the price. If you purchase something in California and the store ships it to anywhere except California you do not pay tax. Tax rates are different for not only States but also by location in State. Los Angeles has a different tax rate than San Francisco... even smaller cities have different rates. Some States such as Nevada do not have tax. |

Right, if you pick up your art in the same state you bought it from then you will have to pay sales tax. Best to have it shipped if you don't want to incur those charges.

both prints were the same same packaging same value marked on ect.

Parcel force are dumb. I brought two stik liberty prints from a member here the first one arrived had to pay £20 of quid charges a week later the secound arrived I had to pay closer to £100. both prints were the same same packaging same value marked on ect. |

They'll often charge the full 20% VAT, mate. You'll need to claim the overpaid 15% back via the relevant HMRC form. I've posted a link to it or name of it on a VAT thread before but I'm rubbish at finding old threads. Someone else might be able to find it.
