as mentioned you could fly for about £40 return from London. Its worth trying a few couriers. I am sure you'll get it much cheaper than you were quoted from Royal Mail.

Sounds about right to me. I used Flight Logistics to send a rolled canvas in a large tube with the stretchers etc to Norway and it came to around £75

i don't use priority express... i use standard international.  USPS always tells you that you need to do priority to get tracking info but it's not true.  The customs form you put on anything shipped international has a number (usually starts with LV and ends in US) that can be used for tracking as well.

Also, standard items, in my experience, arrive not much slower than priority.  the only drawback is that there's no insurance for standard, so i only do it if I'm shipping something that isn't worth too much, like my own prints haha
