Girl with Balloon for sale, by jones27 on Jan 2, 2008 23:11:37 GMT 1, Hi
Newyears resolution to clear my debts etc etc has led me to consider selling my banksy girl with balloon. An unsigned version, it is professionally framed (silver brushed frame) and in excellent condition.
It was bought from art republic. I will need to contact them to get provenance as I have lost the receipt.
Tomtom sold one for ยฃ3200 but Id rather sell it privately and not fork out the 20% commission.
Any offers. Please PM.
Cheers
Gareth

Girl with Balloon for sale, by veralynn on Jan 3, 2008 8:07:54 GMT 1, Hi, I may be able to offer some help, a while back I sold a WSM unsigned and had exactly the same circumstances as you. I bought the print on a credit card and got the exact date of the transaction then approached Art Republic. They were very very good and looked back in their records from 2004 and established that they did sell one on that day. What they couldn't do is confirm the print number as it wasn't so relevant back then but given that I had a credit card receipt and confirmation from Art Rep that they sold one that day that was deemed to be 'good enough'. Good luck!

Girl with Balloon for sale, by craigf on Jan 3, 2008 9:46:51 GMT 1, Hi Gareth
Apologies if I am teaching my mother how to suck eggs on this one, but it probably a good idea to show how the gallery price is derived and why they are normally more expensive than a private seller.
I think you will need to look at the sale price of your GWB in a couple of ways. Tom Tom has their GWB for around 6 months before selling it (which was on commission and when I spoke with Lawrence back in the summer the owner had a second one he was going to sell straight after so a nice little earner for all involved). Tom Tom as a business has to charge VAT on everything it sells (as this is a print not an original the rate is the full 17.5%) so the net sales price they receive after the governments share is ยฃ2,723. This is the actual cost to a company if they bought the piece as companies can recover the VAT. The ยฃ2,723 includes Tom Tom's commission, which if it was 20% of the net price means the owner received ยฃ2,179 for the print once sold. This is over ยฃ1,000 less than the price paid by the new owner.
Based on the above you can assume that net of any bank charges / paypal fees a figure of around ยฃ2,200 is as good as you would get from a gallery.
However it seems someone was willing to pay ยฃ3,200 from a gallery so you could assume that selling privately and cutting out the middle man you could get more than ยฃ2,200 if you find a buyer who doesn't feel the need of getting reassurance from a gallery that the print is legit. If you get the proof of original purchase from AR that should be fine.
I think this gives you a range of pricing so it then ends up being dictated by how risk adverse you are and how quickly you want the money. If you want it quickly stick it on eBay with no reserve and see how you get on or put a reasonable BIN price on it. Alternatively or in parallel put in on auctionsaboteur and save on the listing fees.
I thinking this is a cracking print, they only come up every so often and I'd like one for my wall, but my new year resolution is similar to yours, I need to reduce my credit card balance not increase it!
Good luck with the sale ;D

Girl with Balloon for sale, by jones27 on Jan 9, 2008 23:02:32 GMT 1, Just a quick heads up...my girl with balloon is still for sale.
And now complete with provenance from art republic.
I will sell for ยฃ2500.
Its also framed. Being stored flat is much better than kept rolled up in tube. No form of adhesive has been applied.
No haggling or trades please.
Cheers.
