For some reason when i look at this I'm reminded of the Bill Hicks sketch where he says something along the lines of:
"Why do all you Christians wear crosses round your necks? Don't you think if Jesus comes again that's the last f***ing thing he's gonna wanna see?"

New Super A mural in Germany., by St. Art Gallery on May 26, 2014 23:51:50 GMT 1, Actually the artist studied how to paint the hand before painting it.The 4th finger isn't visible because of the angle of the painting. The middle finger is bigger than the pointing finger, so the pointing finger disappears behind the middle finger from this angle.

Before you concern yourself with the hand worry about the concept

New Super A mural in Germany., by met on May 27, 2014 1:47:45 GMT 1, Fallen Rider by Super A. This mural tells the story of actor Christopher Reeve who played the role of Superman. In 1995 he became paralyzed from the neck down following a horse-riding accident. I had not previously heard of Super A. Based on the above image, it looks like the contemporary muralist movement may have found its own David Brent.
This is a remarkable, technically competent, ham-fisted homage. One can only imagine the facial expressions on the evening news if the work had been officially unveiled before the Reeve family.
Where's a committee when you need one? If given the choice, I'd have voted for a blank wall. Crassness does have its place in art. But if going down that route, then produce something interesting or amusing, not just distasteful.
An aspect that hasn't yet been mentioned is scale. Huge murals are often the painter's equivalent of yelling or caps lock. Are they the ideal platform for subjects like personal tragedies — in this case, an accident that resulted in tetraplegia? If Super A believes so, then he's spoilt for choice when it comes to his options for future walls. Google is his friend.
How about telling the "story" of David Rathband? Frances Andrade? Or, better yet, Reeva Steenkamp in a painting also incorporating a sweet, sexy and silver 9mm pistol. Then come up with a catchy pun for the mural's name. Model Shoot?

I can only say that most reactions the artist received are positive and there are just a few people who dislike it. Isn't this what's art all about?

This is an all time issue. Some people like a particular piece of art and opposite there are people who dislike that same piece, and that's the beauty of it. If we would all like the same works and/or artists it would be a very dull art world.

If we would all like the same works and/or artists it would be a very dull art world. I see your point of course, but people have given quite specific reasons on why this particular mural is weak. If you look at the genealogy of street art, or in this case Mural art, then the piece doesn't even merit the length of this response. People are not saying it's not "art", they're just saying, by the standards of Mural art discussed on this board and elsewhere, that it's bad.

First of all I would like to say that I respect everyone's opinion.
One of the reactions was that there was a finger missing, so I tried to explain that's not the case.
Most reaction are about the mural being distasteful and I just try to say that there are also a lot of people who really like the image. The point I would like to make is that there's no wrong or right and art has always been a subject for people to talk about in a positive or negative way.

New Super A mural in Germany., by Deleted on May 27, 2014 21:13:16 GMT 1, I wouldn't worry about people not realising that you can't always see all the fingers in visual depictions painted filmed or photographed.
It's better to have good and bad opinions than zero opinions anyway.
Is Superman Reeves big in Germany or something?
I'm just worried in case one day I drive into a street and theres a gigantic Hasselhoff on a wall.
That would be too much.

I'm just worried in case one day I drive into a street and theres a gigantic Hasselhoff on a wall. That would be too much. That's what I mean, let's everyone give there opinion and have a healthy discussion about it. Rest asure that I am not worried about this at all
Two years ago we showed "Orvillecopter" (the flying taxidermic cat) at art fair KunstRai in Amsterdam. We hit the press world wide (even CNN broadcasted about it) and why, because of the controversy of this piece. The building where the fair was held was smeared by animal rights activist and that even let to more press attention
Fact is that the cat the artist used was how own cat that was run over by a car. He already work with taxidermy before so for him it was something he had to do. The name of the cat was Orville and together with his still living brother Wilbur, they were named after the Wright brothers and this was also the reason for the artist to let the cat fly, besides the reason that Orville would have loved to be able to fly when he was alive in order to chase the birds.
I'm not sure if Reeves is big in Germany. The artist is Dutch and he just made this piece because he wanted to. He makes lost of great art work like this oil painting for example.
