Hanging a large canvas, by lgx on May 23, 2014 21:31:11 GMT 1, I'm looking to hang my first canvas, 1.5m X 1.5m. I'm thinking of using a z bar as I want it to be secure as it's quite pricey.
picturehangers.co.uk/z-bars/#/product/853
Any advice or recommendations?
Cheers

Hanging a large canvas, by Manty on May 23, 2014 21:34:46 GMT 1, looks like a good idea
I usually put a bit of wire or string across the canvas and a screw in the wall, however your idea looks better

Hanging a large canvas, by Deleted on May 23, 2014 21:49:27 GMT 1, Is it really heavy?, if its just normal bang a nail in the wall and a piece of string across back of painting, that'll do. You could try a screw if a nail wont do.
Im aware this ^ rhymes, its one of those days.

Hanging a large canvas, by Gard on May 23, 2014 21:50:57 GMT 1, I always put two or more nails in the wall and hang it on the frame. I know some big galleries use something like your z bar, but it's just two wooden blocks on each side of the frame. I like hanging it on nails the best because it will hang as close to the wall as possible. I've never had any problems with that.

Hanging a large canvas, by Deleted on May 23, 2014 22:22:19 GMT 1, No need for string, 2 nails or screws/rawl plugs(depending on the wall) 6" apart or so to prevent having to straighten it every time the door opens, keeps it nice and flush to the wall as well

yeah, thats what i do really,(didn't want to admit it, in case someone thought i was bodging things) but i only use 1 screw and always have wonky pictures
it improves some of them being like that

Hanging a large canvas, by Deleted on May 23, 2014 23:27:35 GMT 1, But if i bang 2 screws or nails in i will still have to hang the string over them surely?, anyhow most stuff on walls here is at an agreeable angle, i set the tolerances myself (lol).
Light stuff goes on one panel pin, big stuff gets a massive screw. Im not OCD about it as eyes are sheeeite anyhow.

The piece itself is only 2cm thick put it is in a 5cm thick tray frame which is adding a lot to the weight.

Asking the framers would be a good shout.
