BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by Hairbland on Aug 14, 2014 9:10:58 GMT 1, I disagree. If you click through to her web site she's described as an up and comer in the art gallery scene, starting at age 18. So she has to have some idea of how this is done. I view her diatribe as a pr attempt (very Banksy, by the way) and poorly written to boot. Not bad looking though, bit more than a slapper. Do you think she is Fred's daughter? Used to enjoy him on Meridien Tonight.
Ha ha but quick search sez Fred's daughter named Caroline!

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by Deleted on Aug 14, 2014 9:26:06 GMT 1, Was the article some kind of plug?, surely she must have known what the prices were?, esp. in her position as whatever she is. If someone is seriously considering buying a piece as an investment they research prices before the gallery / show / buy process?.

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by jusdeep on Aug 14, 2014 10:06:12 GMT 1, Read this yesterday and its all far too over dramatic and more than likely a pr stunt. If she wanted to be taken seriously maybe she shouldn't make flippant comments.

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by Unica on Aug 14, 2014 12:12:15 GMT 1, Sounds to me that she wanted something she couldn't afford, or she would of dropped the £17k on the Mickey Mouse picture and left happily. But she went there with a £7k budget and was disappointed that she could't have her pick. Champagne taste lemonade money.

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by Deleted on Aug 14, 2014 12:28:07 GMT 1, Her site says she has been selling Art since she was 13 and has been involved in the Art world / market since starting work, she founded The Funky Art gallery so she must know how things are. Maybe she had a beef with Sothebys over something, settling scores etc.?.

Maybe she had a beef with Sothebys over something, settling scores etc.?. If that were true she would know her ass from her elbow and that £17k is a silly amount for a signed Napalm, that the secondary, private market is far cheaper and that you don't refer to art by any name you make up for it, it makes you look like a clown.

It was a unique Napalm from the edition of 27 £17k is about bang on gallery price, she did sound like a clown with no knowledge of art or how the art world works at all though, I wouldn't be too enthusiastic asking her for advice that's for sure.....that ones nice cause it has Mickey Mouse in it and I always liked Mickey Mouse...

Would love to know where you can get one of those A/Ps cheaper please. Was a good looking piece.

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by Deleted on Aug 14, 2014 12:53:47 GMT 1, I like that she added Steve Lazarides to her bucket list. Edit: Also, regarding the gallery staff: "I caught him giving me the up and down look." - I get that ALL THE TIME when I walk into galleries. Trust me, it is NOT a sexual thing. Not so far anyway. I got the up and down look and it was bluntly obvious I wasn't up to standards when the chap turned on his heals and walked into the back gallery, not worth the effort, I talked to the other person and when the first one realised I was buying something I got the whole old mates arm round the shoulder treatment, it wasn't sexual but I reckon if I had taken 2 he would have happily popped the baby maker in his mouth...

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by Deleted on Aug 14, 2014 13:23:03 GMT 1, It is true that auction houses employ some chinless wonder usually son or daughter of someone or other connected in various departments to deal with the public in areas they can do least damage with the little knowledge and experience they have in art dealing.
A priority is they have to dress and talk posh and talk down to potential buyers to give the impression that by selling someone a pretty picture they are doing the buyer a big favour.
When in fact they are just upmarket second hand dealers.
From the start this sale held at Sothebys was promoted as an unofficial retrospective exhibition of Banksy work.
When in reality it's just a sale held at Sothebys with the art on display for potential buyers.
Why didn't she just contact Lazarides directly and make a cash offer for the Mickey Mouse to him and cutting out Sothebys.
She knew all along the real title of the Mickey Mouse picture and she was buying for investment only.

BANKSY The Unauthorised Retrospective , by craigf on Aug 17, 2014 18:53:26 GMT 1, The writer has a chip on their shoulder the size of a small building. Whether she will admit it or not the piece she enquired about was more than she could afford and she was clueless about its title, meaning or pretty much anything other than one of the characters depicted (I guess she knew the one on the other side was Ronald McDonald, whether she recognised the middle image who knows). She didn't even get the point it was an unauthorised retrospective so nothing to do with Banksy other than his art was on show. When I went there was a lady there who all she wanted was an original to put on the wall. She pointed to one of the canvases and asked how much, the sotheby's assistant politely indicated the amount and edition size to which the lady enquiring said "it can't be an original as it's not a 1/1". More money than sense
Based on your description above, the "More money than sense" evaluation seems overly harsh to me. My shortened summary was just that, a shortened summary. She seemed to really had no interest in the images, their meaning or anything really about the piece it was all about the headline of owning an original work by Banksy. So maybe she had huge amounts of sense wishing to invest in an original, but she didn't really seem overly into the artist or the works themselves and had clearly done little or no leg work in advance of the show.
