Please finish this sentence: I like urban art because...., by Deleted on May 29, 2014 17:55:55 GMT 1, I know today's a big day for a lot of people, with all of the print drops, so I was just curious what attracted everyone to street/urban art in the first place? So if you had to summarize your love in one sentence, what would you write? Obviously there are tons of reasons, so what's the first thought that pops into your head?
I like urban art because the artists don't act above or out of touch with their fan base.

Please finish this sentence: I like urban art because...., by Agent Provocateur on May 29, 2014 18:51:53 GMT 1, I like urban art because... it's underground, edgy, irreverent and is not interested in being liked, but more interested in being heard.
Hmmm this is 2005 isn't it!? No... damn, scrub that last bit.
I [dis]like urban art because... it's been appropriated by mainstream culture, is now all about investment/money and has nearly lost it's reactionary ideals (7 colour ways anyone?).

Please finish this sentence: I like urban art because...., by Hairbland on May 29, 2014 18:56:45 GMT 1, A bit of a generalization.
Seems it would have same reasons as any art one appreciates - it moves you, floats your boat, makes you feel or react.
I like some Urban / Street art much like I like MOMA and The Met in NYC.

I [dis]like urban art because... it's been appropriated by mainstream culture, is now all about investment/money and has nearly lost it's reactionary ideals (7 colour ways anyone?). I understand where you are coming from but I think there is still some cool stuff going on. It is just hard to see with all the clutter. Banksy in NY, brandalism to name just a couple. I think there are way too many prints and not nearly enough activism motivated, unauthorized street art goodness. But there still is some.

That borondo evening tonight was great, held in a derelict pub that's being condemned and demolished in July. Just the guy's studio and house that you could walk around with friendly folks.
Also popped into the pablo delgado exhibition this evening which i thought was arranged in such a great way to compliment his work, i was impressed with whomever came up with the structure for the show. As well, I thought he did a lot that brought his traditional small characters to a bigger scale without compromising his typical street work.
But the prints and the artists, there's too many too keep up with, just takes a bit more effort than it did 10 years ago to find the good stuff.

Although Mmmike is right about the investment/money side of it, it's still long way from listening to an art gallery fashionista tell you how this rising artist tortured his soul while he shat out splashes of paint on the canvas.
It's still sort of real

Please finish this sentence: I like urban art because...., by bullysonzx10r on May 30, 2014 2:55:38 GMT 1, ... Because it's the ultimate expression of passion in art. I was in Paris walking down this back alley and saw this very complex piece by an artist I have never heard of, and someone had used their piece as the background for another than they placed on top. It was amazing to see, and art within itself.
Every time an "Urban Artist" puts something on a wall, they know they could literally walk away and it could be gone tomorrow.
In Japan, the police are trying to fingerprint Invader's work to find out who he is and arrest him. In Paris, they put Plexi-glass over it to protect it.
Imagine painting the Mona Lisa, and walking away knowing that some punk with a $5.00 to buy a spray-can can walk up and destroy it within seconds.
Art is Chaos, Urban art represents that Chaos to the highest degree.
OH -- and, you know -- Fuck the police and stuff... right?
