PAHNL - Rip offs ***Grrrrr***, by Pahnl on Jun 2, 2014 21:27:23 GMT 1, I've a whole folder full of plagiarized pieces, from eBay knock offs, a tee design and one piece was even used as a lead image for an austerity protest by students in Eastern Europe.
And tartarus, I had Instagram take that guy's ripoff images down, although they'll remain badly painted on the streets until they're hopefully buffed. He kept reuploading it all, so on the third time, Instagram completely removed his account. I feel bad for him but it was his own fault.

Dug out a few other examples...
In the case of those protest posters, I didn't mind so much (as it was a good cause) and I would've gladly drawn something for them but they never asked.

I remember having to file a complaint with eBay about a Portuguese guy. Those pieces were better than most (thought still not great) and I think he used some jazzy background patterns, right?
The copyright applies to the site design and content, etc. The thing is, copyright isn't something you need to file for like a trademark. As soon as you produce something original, you're automatically granted copyright over it. And with most things being online, it's a lot easier to see who came up with what first. There's no requirement to show the © to keep the rights but it's standard practice on websites anyway.

If you have any talent and want to be good at something then be creative and make your own work and have your own ideas and don't just steel someone else. It wont get you anywhere in life.
I hope you can get something done about this person ripping your work off. I for one know how hard you work Pahnl.

Maybe she is a fan and just wanted to make some Pahnl art for herself.
I wouldn't be too hard on her, maybe contact her and encourage her o do more art in her own style.
I like Pahnl paintings a lot but the trouble with simplicity is that it can verge on generic and in my local store there are safety notices in different colours which made me think of Pahnl's art when I saw them.
She looks young.

Like I said, they're not being sold or painted in the street. My characters take their aesthetic from signage graphics and there's always the chance of coincidence but those were definitely lifted from my work.

I think fans who copy a painting because they love your art and want a painting for themselves but cant afford one is a good thing but people who copy and do it to make money is a bad thing.

And great link there, I love it when scammers are tricked into doing things like that. I think the best one I saw was a scammer getting a tattoo to convince someone of their legitimacy.
