Was in terrible condition when recieved after getting a condition email that said it was in really good condition and it also took months to get the piece from them. So would never buy from them again as cannot trust what they say and that was Mary Mc Carthy who gave the condition report.
do not know the others. I live outside Europe so did not attend the first auction where I bought the piece.

Tajan Auctions 🇫🇷 Paris, by polarno on Jul 30, 2014 11:07:27 GMT 1, Hi, I am in charge of the Auction at Tajan and wanted to thank you for the great comments. Just to let you know that it is indeed our first Urban Art auction and we take it very seriously with, as you saw, an original by Banksy (and more), but also from SWOON, Dran, DALeast, Crash, Dondi, Rammellzee, Sheppard Fairey...and many more but it is a surprise Just to be clear on one point. We are not part of the Drouot Group, as Digard, and have our own sale room (old Art Deco Bank with a georgous 1905 Art Deco stained glass ceiling) in which the exhibition and the auction will be held ; alike Artcurial. www.tajan.com/fr/tajan/espace.asp (of course with Urban Art inside it will look much more modern). I hope you will enjoy the catalog and its content ; be sure we will do our best to honored the mouvement and the artists.

Also what are the sellers fees (approx)? for anyone interested in consigning.
edit. Not that I will be consigning anything, thought it may be of interest to those who may be thinking of doing so.

Tajan Auctions 🇫🇷 Paris, by polarno on Jul 30, 2014 12:06:33 GMT 1, As Shootagain said the auction is October 9th. I am willing to have the printed catalog between September 15 and 20, so the online version will be available at the same time. Our commission depends on the relation to the seller, the value of the consignment, etc, etc but our max is 13% VAT excluded. At the time being, and thanks to entrusting consigners, we have approximately 170 lots for a low estimate of 500 000€, which is more that what we seek initially. Therefore, we are not really taking consignment anymore, only for rare and exceptionnal pieces of course , since I do not want to scatter potentials buyers attention by offering many equivalent works for the same signature. I'd like this auction to be a kind of review, overview, on the mouvement and offer quality works, but also more affordable ones, of each artists we present. But of course, it is auction and you are always forced to compose with what you can find and consigners are willing to give you. I really hope you will like it.

It's a business so I guess the lots being auctioned are taken on the basis that they can earn the auction hose the most money.

The only thing I heard about French auction houses is the allégations that Tajan lost a Renoir painting and also some person who sold through Tajan had to sue to get their money which got stashed away in Switzerland for 4 years or so and also that the fuzz arrested a bunch of people who worked via Drouot for theft etc including commissionairs.
""But in December, the French police exposed what is said to be an extensive art-trafficking ring within the auction house. A dozen people were arrested on suspicion of coordinated thefts, most of them “commissionaires,” members of Drouot’s clannish corporation of handlers and transporters; since then, four more have reportedly confessed to stealing. "PARIS—Former French foreign minister Roland Dumas, 82, and Jacques Tajan, 64, formerly one of France’s top auctioneers, went on trial in December for charges stemming from a 1994 auction of artworks by Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
Tajan is charged with keeping about $1.5 million from the $7.8 million sale in the account of his auction house, Étude Tajan, as well as keeping the interest accrued during the next five years. Dumas is charged with receiving €370,000 (about $500,000) as a bribe from Tajan."

"A painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir has been stolen from a Paris auction house shortly before it was due to be sold. The painting, called Tete de Fillette (Young Girl's Head), is estimated to be worth 200,000 euros (£138,000).
The Tajan auction house reported it missing on Tuesday, but were not sure when it was taken, police said. There were no signs of a break-in." news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4396483.stm

Just to clarify some points.
-We have nothing to do with Drouot, which is only a salesroom hosting auction from a kind of consortium of auctioneer (who do not own a salesroom). For example, Drouot is the name of the place where auction houses like Cornette, Digard, Millon and almost a hundred auctioneers hold their auctions. Typically french way of organizing things. At Tajan we have our own place and we are covering all the steps of the auction with our own employees, no "Col rouge" in our place (exactly like Artcurial).
-Yes, a small Renoir has been stolen during an exhibition in a glass case in 2005. Don't worry we have bought new cameras, new glass cases, there is always someone in the exhibition room and we have antitheft chips. And museum get rob too.
-Regarding the Dumas and Jacques Tajan "Giacometti trials" it happens during the 90's and the trial was closed in 2005. In fact, Jacques Tajan has taken is retirement in 2003 when is sold Tajan to our actual owner. The sole link we have to this old story is the name.
Hope my english is clear enough.
Cheers,
Does anyone have an opinion about the french auction houses - in particular for urban/street art? Artcurial v. Tajan v. Digard etc? Which are reliable and so on.
The police are said to have recovered more than a hundred missing objects and artworks, including several Chagall lithographs and a Courbet valued at as much as $135,000.
