Tajan Auctions ๐ซ๐ท Paris, by Matt on Oct 1, 2015 20:13:40 GMT 1, The invader home series also went for quite a bit. 2000 euros before premium is nuts even for a PP of 2 I think that was possibly on the low side. I assume โฌ2k for one piece not the set otherwise it was incredibly low, but I sold a Home Mars main edition for ยฃ1.2K (pounds) a year or 2 back... but also appreciate that the exchange rate has had a bit of a swing since
2000 euros hammer is around 2000gbp with premium, I find that high for a Home Print. Don't think any sold for that recently but may be wrong.
It is a very good print, And I have the home earth which I find the best colorway by far, but don't don't think it is worth 2k !

most places do, as they still earn sellers commission, so its in their interest

Tajan Auctions ๐ซ๐ท Paris, by Matt on Oct 2, 2015 8:12:20 GMT 1, Thank you! the banksys went quite cheap. Let's hope it is a long term trend in price. Unfortunately i don't think it means much in terms of overall pricing trend. All of these were framed, for all you know they are all glued to the backboard so you might say you had a smart lot of buyers. Have no idea about condition either. And they were pretty boring low end prints for an auction house.
Shows again that France is not a Banksy market. In a very famous gallery I was told two weeks ago in Paris that they did not care much for him because "he was a fad, and his output was out of control"...
On the other hand the JR and Invader pieces went fast to the higher estimates. Artistic Patriotism ?
What i find more revealing about this auction, when you look at the curation and the bids, is that French buyers like old school graffiti, for them it is what defines "Street"; This can be seen in the recent Pinacotheque expo, and the many gallery shows
Also, someone on line really wanted that Kaws doodle. Someone from here ?

I think France is just not the place to sell Banksy. I would have been better off selling it at Bonhams.

Might be worth reading my post again :-)
I simply suggested that MAYBE ("might be glued" or "for all you know") the people in the room had been cautious because they were framed prints. I suggested his might have played a role in the disappointing prices.
I also said France was not a market for Banksy....which I think you agree to

Did you not have a reserve price ?

So true. French people mainly buy French graff and street art. They and the Dutch where also very early on the us graff stuff in the 80s, back when graff did not sell that good in NYC (mostly due to politics) so they got the history of good graff from America. Shepard usually sells good in France but that's about it regards the non French street artists. The rule of thumb is the most artists are getting the best prices in there home countries. Ce la vie.

Tajan Auctions ๐ซ๐ท Paris, by johnnygrizot on Oct 5, 2015 11:57:54 GMT 1, Hello,
I'm the Curator of this auction. We sold all the Banksy. All the prints were in agreement with the last auction results. We reach some auction record for example with Rammellzee, one of the most important artist of the Graffiti movement history. If Banksy french interest is lower than English interest, as you speak about "Patriotism", Banksy is an english guy, no? I know almost any collector of those American graffiti pioneers in England, sadly, Dondi White, Rammellzee, Futura 2000 ect...please take a look about the HISTORY. The auction was good and the next one will be better. And please don't be so patriotic with ouf dear Banksy!!!
