to me that seems like a very high figure, but then again you don't say where it needs to be shipped to.
I've used Flight Logistics before, and highly recommend them. If you're EU based that 600-1000euro range would get you a nice weekend trip to paris where you can pick it up in person!

That is a huge amount! I suggest you call intermode, they do a lot of my shipping and are extremely reasonably priced. Another option is Hedleys Humpers but only if you're shipping to London, they do a couple of van runs a week to the UK.

Get a quote then from Intermode, ask for John. How big is it? Often I find you're better unfreezing and having it re-done at home. Is the frame worth keeping and the extra shipping cost? If not, get it send flat, it's actually safer and much much cheaper.

That's what I've paid (around $1,000 USD) for auction house shipping, from US (NYC) to Japan. Framed mid-sized print, medium-large painting on aluminum.

In my experience, a serious expense that needs to be factored into overall cost.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I am UK based and recently purchased two separate framed pieces from two different auction houses in New York. One of the pieces was approx. 50x40cm, and the other was slightly smaller. In both cases I just paid for the shipping organised and billed for by the auction houses.

Christies New York charged £400 including import duties, and Sotheby's charged £486 including import duties. Both pieces were really well packaged in wooden crates. I'm not sure who the auction houses used to do the crating (I'm assuming they did it themselves), but the items were delivered by Fedex and DHL.

Like I said... I'm not sure if this is helpful as I'm not sure where you are shipping to or what size pieces you are shipping, but thought it might be a useful guide to costs.

I have used 'Pack and Send' down here in OZ shipping framed items to the US and Uk and have been very good. I believe they have offices in the UK now so business must be booming. Worth a ring to get a quote.

Thanks for this. Just reached out to them about a large framed piece I got at auction in the U.K. They seem the most affordable to ship back to the US. And your words of their shipping/packing competence are encouraging.
