World Cup and Charity Sweepstake, by Hubble Bubble on Jun 6, 2014 21:42:15 GMT 1, This may workโฆ it may not. But bear with me.
I want to see if we can raise some money for a charity that helps others in the name of art. We seem like a good bunch on here and hopefully it shouldnโt be too difficult. ย (I know we've done it in the past through various means)
I googled something like โkidsโ โartโ and โcharityโ and came up with this one -
Kids Company Charityย
I have absolutely no link with this charity and Iโm sure there are others equally as worthy. I picked them as itโs a charity based in London and Bristol that works a lot with inner city kids. ย Seemed like a good match for us.
Essentially, they are a charity that works with and helps abused and traumatised children through various methods, many of them arts based. Art itself plays a part in one of their therapy days, with the charity staging โart daysโ that require 10 to 15 volunteers and ยฃ700. Volunteers simply help the kids produce different types of work under the guidance of the charityโs art leader.
Hereโs my plan.
In the first instance โ and, of course, if we have enough uptake - we simply raise ยฃ700 and send it to the charity with a note that we are art lovers and would love them to continue with more of their โart therapyโ. ย If this first run is a success then โ further down the line - we might be able to look at doing it again sometime and getting a few of us together to act as volunteers and go work with these kids. Iโd certainly be up for that.
Butโฆ first things first. Letโs see if Stage One flies.
Here how it will work. ย 32 forum members pledge ยฃ25 each. For that, you get entered into a sweepstake for the upcoming World Cup. The winner receives ยฃ100. This leaves ยฃ700 to the charity. With a gift aid Brucey Bonus, this makes a tidy sum.
Soโฆ
1. We number out 1 โ 32. Just add your name to the list.
2. When โ and only when โ the list reaches 32โฆ I will PM you and send you my paypal details. The list will then be closed.
3. You IMMEDIATELY gift me ยฃ25.
4. One of my wonderful daughters does a blind draw and you are allocated your team.
5. I send ยฃ700 plus gift aid to the charity (posting a receipt on here, of course)
6. We sit back and enjoy the footy and the banter that ensues on this thread.
7. The winner gets their ยฃ100 from me by paypal after the final.
Some notes:
I do understand that ยฃ25 is not an inconsequential sum for many people in these tight times.
Iโll only do it if we get 32 people. If we donโtโฆ no problem.
If we do get 32โฆ I want your money prontoโฆ I donโt want to have to chase you.
Money must be sterling. ยฃ25.
It all needs to happen prior to the World Cup commencing.
I really donโt want to get into any debate about choice of charity/methodology etc. I make no claims to this being the only wayโฆ but itโs one way and Iโve decided Iโll stick my neck out and try to make it happen. If itโs not for you then please donโt have a pop.
Simples.
Whoโs in? Number off after me.

Kids Company charity is absolutely incredible, I did some volunteer work for them a few years back and can't tell you how tough some of those 'kids' or youths lives are and what they have to deal with on a daily basis. Many are carers for parents with very high risk addictions and severe mental health problems. Many are the children of prostitutes and have suffered abuse themselves. I was genuinely moved by their stories and despite their suffering their will to try and create better lives for themselves. Kids Co is absolutely essential as a place for them to feel safe and receive the support and help they need.
I'm absolutely skint at the moment and I'd pledge ยฃ25 without a second thought, and wouldn't need a ยฃ100 prize either ....... give it all to Kids Co, believe me they really need every bit of support and cash they can get.
Such a great idea to do this!
