I want to see if we can raise some money for a charity that helps others in the name of art. We seem like a good bunch on here and hopefully it shouldn’t be too difficult.  (I know we've done it in the past through various means)

I googled something like ‘kids’ ‘art’ and ‘charity’ and came up with this one -

Kids Company Charity 

I have absolutely no link with this charity and I’m sure there are others equally as worthy. I picked them
as it’s a charity based in London and Bristol that works a lot with inner city kids.   Seemed like a good match for us.

Essentially, they are a charity that works with and helps abused and traumatised children through various methods, many of them arts based. Art itself plays a part in one of their therapy days, with the charity staging ‘art days’ that require 10 to 15 volunteers and £700. Volunteers simply help the kids produce different types of work under the guidance of the charity’s art leader.

Here’s my plan.

In the first instance – and, of course, if we have enough uptake - we simply raise £700 and send it to the charity with a note that we are art lovers and would love them to continue with more of their ‘art therapy’.  If this first run is a success then – further down the line - we might be able to look at doing it again sometime and getting a few of us together to act as volunteers and go work with these kids. I’d certainly be up for that.

But… first things first. Let’s see if Stage One flies.

Here how it will work.  32 forum members pledge £25 each. For that, you get entered into a sweepstake for the upcoming World Cup. The winner receives £100. This leaves £700 to the charity. With a gift aid Brucey Bonus, this makes a tidy sum.

So…

1. We number out 1 – 32. Just add your name to the list.

2. When – and only when – the list reaches 32… I will PM you and send you my paypal details. The list will then be closed.

3. You IMMEDIATELY gift me £25.

4. One of my wonderful daughters does a blind draw and you are allocated your team.

5. I send £700 plus gift aid to the charity (posting a receipt on here, of course)

6. We sit back and enjoy the footy and the banter that ensues on this thread.

7. The winner gets their £100 from me by paypal after the final.

Some notes:

I do understand that £25 is not an inconsequential sum for many people in these
tight times.

I’ll only do it if we get 32 people. If we don’t… no problem.

If we do get 32… I want your money pronto… I don’t want to have to chase you.

Money must be sterling. £25.

It all needs to happen prior to the World Cup commencing.

I really don’t want to get into any debate about choice of charity/methodology
etc. I make no claims to this being the only way… but it’s one way and
I’ve decided I’ll stick my neck out and try to make it happen. If it’s not for you
then please don’t have a pop.
