There are many choices that David Choe has made in his life that I would never have any interest in making. They go completely against the fabric that I am made from. The thing that I have always respected about Choe is that he is more authentically himself than the majority of being that dwell in this country. And for that I find him a courageous being.

As to the fame bit, Silky, if you followed Choe throughout the years. The man has certainly had an interesting relationship with Fame. I'm not sure he knows how to handle it. I think it makes him act out more, show off more and become more extreme. I wonder if he bit off his own tongue this time. I think he is wrestling internally with what he said or what he did. Truthfully, only him and that therapist know what happened.

I know that he has hated the fame that came with the Facebook thing.  He certainly enjoyed being in his quiet little club with his friends.  And unless you follow him on his show or social media.  He pretty much stays in his own world ( barring this incident of course).

Personally, I think he should be beat severely if he did what he said he did. And if he is telling stories then he should learn to draw the line. Then again, he has no clue what a straight line looks like.

To compare Choe with Brainwash is simply ignorant. Sorry but it is.

I certainly don't love all of Choe's work by a long shot but when it's good, it's great. Very few artists that are drooled over on this site compare to Choe in top form.

I Recognize this is my opinion. Choe is masterful and will be standing long after 90% of street art will fade into the periphery of time. Mark it 8, dude!

This is completely taken out of proportion!

For starters; there is no excuse for rape.

The story is a joke. A strange story about a masseuse who play hard to get. Asa Akira, which is a famous porn actress, challenge DC that this was rape and he now is a rapist. Since this is only a story on a freak talk show he plays along. It is by no means a glorification of rape. Read the story AND listen to the show! Maybe it was not the best joke/story, but that is not what this thread is about.

I find it pathetic how some of you will now take the opportunity to assert their political correctness and say rape is wrong. Of course it is wrong! End of that discussion.

About his art, he is a great talent. He uses ALL different scills and makes a lot of different and great art. Go through his art, he is skilled. Even if you like it or not.

DC is by no means a ordinary bloke with a normal childhood or life, which should not be used against him. He is more an artist soul and mind than few living artist today. Those who know him knows he is a great character and a kind and loving person.

Again, before you judge DC for beeing a rapist or someone who glorifys rape, read the story AND listen to the show!

I agree that he is a hedonist - he bought into the whole Los Angeles rock star porn star lifestyle, I wasn't impressed with it when I stumbled on his work years ago. It's possible the story has some truth to it mixed with some embellishment for "entertainment value" for a show co-hosted with a popular asian porn star. 

Artists having a made up persona is nothing new.  Nobody knows what he did. Or didn't do.

Personally I don't care for his art or his shtick.

But I wouldn't line up in the "he's a rapist" line yet.  My understanding of art and those who follow it is that we are open minded, not quick to rush to judgement on possibly scurrilous information and basically just a bit more intelligent in weaving our way through the daily jungle.

The show is for shock value. Anyone that's been following him for a while gets it. Look back on his zines, blog, vbs tv, etc. and it's all the same theme. Push the envelope for a laugh. If you aren't familiar with his shtick, it's really myopic to make a quick call judgement. Most the comments here are pretty unbased. If all you've read is the article and listened to the clip of the show, it's really an unfair judgement.
