Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by Deleted on Jun 28, 2014 11:57:03 GMT 1, Neither. Invest in a Francis Bacon edition instead.
Plus you won't have to go through all the Pest Control dramatics of registering your name as a new owner which is just a ploy to keep prices high.
No other ltd editions are registered each time they change hands.
No dramatics / no ploy and yes there are other editions that are re registered with new ownership. As usual Ploppi, you are incorrect but we love you. Smile Ploppi.

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by Deleted on Jun 28, 2014 12:47:08 GMT 1, IMO the ones that will be the best investment 10-20 years from now will be:
-anything with a rat that is signed -anything with a monkey that is signed -gwb -liita -kate
barcode is beyond incredible, but not something that immediately says 'banksy' to those unfamiliar with the artist (despite the spray logo). so so awesome though. i think it's more a (rightful) favorite among banksy fans than the overall art world though, and that'll show later.
monkeys and rats and girls with balloons, oh my. pretty much.
same thing with any other artist; people want the 'classic' images, so the other rich person walking in doesn't have to ask them who the artist is. half of it is about status when it gets to that level; that's why when you buy a Lichtenstein you want that style, not something from his back catalog that you wouldn't know is a Licht at first sight. for me, i see rat/monkey/kate-marilyn/flower thrower/gwb and i think 'banksy' immediately, as do most i believe.
naturally i love barcode (would do gross things for one), etc. but i see those going down a little.
i personally think cyw is going to plummet. hirst might as well.

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by Deleted on Jun 28, 2014 13:02:35 GMT 1, We're at the tail end of pretty horrific global recession and Banksy prices have risen and risen through it, a vast majority are in private collections and as the prices go up the works are going into collections of wealthier people who don't need/want to sell so many pieces wont resurface for a long while, no new works released for 4 years and unlikely there will be, more and more want them, less and less available, I cant see anything by Banksy going down until another global recession happens or the likes, just my opinion.

I'd say at least a few are wrecked though

I'd hesitate to say "most" but there's plenty of tales around about rats pinned up with drawing pins or put up with sellotape.
On the other hand I've seen some mint stuff from back then that was bought by those with a bit of an idea that this all might take off, doubt anyone saw all this coming though.

They should have a site to keep track of how many in a given edition have been completely destroyed/lost. Would be interesting to know.

i have a backdoor FC and it's in really great condition - maybe it's because it's on a nicer paper stock than some of the others?

From what I've heard, like 1/3 of the pre-2004 prints are destroyed, and a fair share have creases/damage/etc. People didn't know what they had - they'd staple them to walls, throw them away when they were tired of the image, etc.
Explains why you see so few of them up for sale (like when's the last time you saw a signed Pulp Fiction or HMV for sale?)
I guess Mary stays intact since it went unsold for a while, and probably got snatched up once people knew what they had.

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by sommguy on Jun 29, 2014 4:05:44 GMT 1, Thanks. i am definitely grateful for the opportunity. BELIEVE me. Things happen for a reason. the timing is incredible, as I am getting commitment moneys for selling equity in my IP. if it wasn't for this company wanting to buy a majority share, i wouldn't be in this position. I never thought i could afford, but most importantly, never thought i would ever actually buy anything the expensive outside of my house.

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by sommguy on Jun 29, 2014 4:18:24 GMT 1, Its the Monkey. It's always been the monkey.... but i might get the CYW, as the investment piece. if i can get both. I WILL GO BROKE, GOING FOR BROKE! i think hebru brainily said that. or maybe it was mike genovese.... Anyway...
I don't sell my stuff, but i can borrow against
I like the CYW. whats not to like about Banksy and Haring? and if it is the rarest of all prints, then why not try to get both right? If I can its all about the laugh now and the CYW Silver. I like that one better that the white. the silver version. the flake in the paint is fucking sick!!!!

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by sommguy on Jun 29, 2014 4:23:34 GMT 1, banksy prints is in a bubble, just bear that in mind - always assume that your purchase is worth zero once you have paid for it. Well as long as the AP price is still less than what retail is on the regular edition, I'm good with it all day.
With banks, i don't care about losing value. my friends say i am crazy. as long as i get a hook up on price. i am fine. if a bottom drops out, i will have time to drop with enough warning, to still get double my money back. IF I WERE TO SELL THEM TO BEGIN WITH.
im crazy like that. i honestly love the art, the message, the images... its worth to me now, how could it not be worth it later, to me? If i am going to pay over 500 bucks american i better like it a lot. if its over 2500 i better love it, period!
And i don't mean anything more than what i said. i respect everyones position with regards to their collections and how you manage you money. your life, your deal. you know?

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by sommguy on Jun 29, 2014 9:30:09 GMT 1, Also, question: is it true that most of the pre-2004 prints are not in mint condition, i.e. have creases, etc.? that's what i've largely heard (and seems to be implied a bit above), but can't tell if it's actually true or not. I'd hesitate to say "most" but there's plenty of tales around about rats pinned up with drawing pins or put up with sellotape. On the other hand I've seen some mint stuff from back then that was bought by those with a bit of an idea that this all might take off, doubt anyone saw all this coming though. My buddy in SF, was eating lunch and walked across the street and saw happy/flying copper, the AP and bought it and an unsigned bomb hugger for a few hundred. I offered to buy for $18k. thats a lot between us, as we sell each other fairy pieces for twice the retail we paid originally.

You're talking out of your arse giranowatch I can definitely see some of the CYWs going down comparatively; the only reason people care now about certain colors is about edition size/rarity, but some of the colors are plain fugly IMO. Those are the ones I can see going down; the ones that are weird/bad colors but small edition sizes (orange/purple/khaki/slate). Sooner or later, people actually pay attention to how it looks. And they grey looks perfectly fine if you like the image; I'd almost say better than the orange/purple/khaki/slate.

Choose Your Weapon (silver flake or white edition ) or Laugh Now AP?, by Winter on Sept 18, 2014 8:14:33 GMT 1, I actually think the queue jumper grey is one of the best colours. I don't have one but every time I see one I realise how good it is. That said CYW definitely falls into the pop art category when you put a few of the bright colours together
