Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by Poly Mindset on Jul 4, 2014 2:08:05 GMT 1, I concur, very different images than we're use to seeing. I've only seen them online and from a price sheet from the gallery. I really like "This One's Just Right" , "Guaranteed to Perform", "The Finest Faile Bros", "Young Minds, Silent City" and of course the cool car images. Some of them do seem like rougher images and then some are very fine and highly detailed. It's almost like a half and half show. Wish I could be there to see them in person I'm sure I'd appreciate the rougher images more. All in all, great work as one would expect from such talented guys. It seems the show definitely lives up to it's title, "Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom" .

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by yoyosh on Jul 4, 2014 4:36:56 GMT 1, I've only seen pix online, and I think it's a gutsy and exciting change for the Patricks. Not that their styled NEEDED a change, but this is refreshing. Not sure I love the patches, but really do enjoy the paintings.

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by LAZAKY on Jul 4, 2014 7:06:51 GMT 1, Are you joking guys? I agree with the fact that it's good to see new "style" from faile, but this is not exciting for me! Paintings looks like they have been unfinished or done too fast and prices are definitely too high! The work on paper named Finally gone to sleep that represent a flying horse and a sleeping child is at 9900€... The works on wood with collage and spray paint are at 44000€ ! I don't know if I'm looking for much better skills from faile but I can't imagine paying, and even hanging, such a piece from them!
I feel sad saying that, but for what I've seen so far faile are going down down down...

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by twist65 on Jul 4, 2014 9:51:10 GMT 1, I wouldn't mind the pdf too if anyone has it, although its just out of curiosity, not buying owt. I haven't been on here much of late but have been surprised about the lack of a thread! Assumed either people weren't feeling it or lack of a print to generate excitement..
Personally I think they look great and although I love their classic style more, its nice to see a fresh approach and I much prefer the look and feel to the Fragments experimental pieces from a few years back. The cars look amazing too but they're more Faile-ey I'm a sucker for that sort of subject matter..

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by cutiehoney on Jul 4, 2014 10:00:53 GMT 1, The images are definitely growing on me. I love that the Patricks keep pushing themselves…with technique, imagery and medium… Unlike many other artist loved on here, they don't just churn out the same old, same old. The work may not always be my favourite …but that is okay…I don't love every Banksy, Warhol, or Rothko... I would love to be able to see the exhibition and stand before the works….in fact I think I may have just talked myself into a little trip!!
Tinmar…The Patricks must be breathing a sigh of relief that you are not the ultimate arbitrator of what is good art and what is not!

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by Gard on Jul 4, 2014 10:17:29 GMT 1, I just got the PDF (thank you @tinmar) and I really like what I see. I have been talking to a few stencil artists lately and what we usually end up talking about is how to evolve. It's scary to evolve for artists, a lot of the artists we discuss on here has found something that works for them and then continue to do that for as long as possible, no point in changing a winning formula right?.
Faile has taken the step and made something different. They still use some of their older imagery to keep their hardcore fans from flipping out, but they are trying some new aesthetics. To me it looks like they are trying to play with the differences between children and grown ups. How we all want to be big when we are kids and wished we had enjoyed it more when we grow up. They are playing with a feeling most of us have felt, and in that way it's easy for the viewer to get the universe they are trying to create for them. Am I on to something?
I would love it if someone posted bigger pictures from the show I really want to have a better look at this.

Agree Plip, maybe that's what they were aiming to achieve, the mentality/freedom a child has when their painting or creating, shake the shackles off, don't think too much about how others will perceive/judge and just enjoy themselves creating, they do grow on you the more you look (but theres a few stinkers in there imo), I do like the sleep tight piece with the faile dog on the wall, you can almost hear Enter Sandman playing in the background Personally I'm not into paintings of cars or motorbikes although I like both, painting an actual car would be a lot cooler....like this www.ulstertatler.com/2013/09/art-car-unveiled-at-donnelly-group-showroom/

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by twist65 on Jul 4, 2014 12:59:00 GMT 1, badrobot I don't really think it is pushing boundaries either, but I think most people would have an idea of what a new Faile show would look like, and most of the works here would not fit with that. Agree its kind of deconstructed, doing many of the same things as the collages etc albeit a slightly different aesthetic. Less awkward than the Fragments show though for me (although I love the one that Afr1ka picked up from that body of work).
Perhaps this kind of feel is an attempt to break outside of the 'urban' pigeonhole with contemporary collectors etc - to go up another level, the choice of gallery and price tags etc. Or maybe they did just decide to do a looser body of work inspired by their kids etc.. For me its interesting rather than amazing, I like them because I like Faile so despite the different feel, the imagery and subject matter isn't too much of a shock to the system. I can't really see people who don't like Faile changing their mind after seeing this show, and maybe a lot of hardcore fans only want to see stuff screenprinted onto canvas, wood or paper. But i'd much prefer to see something like this and the forthcoming abstract pieces planned for Edinburgh rather than show after show rehashing images from the archives with a few new ones here and there. Would be interesting to see if other big names such as Shep or D*Face could pull off something like this..

There is one thing that faile can't be labelled with & that is being dull. I started buying from faile back in 2006 & purchased a red mao shanghai print (edition of 8) for $120. Sadly hem days are long gone.
