Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by balibob on Aug 8, 2014 15:01:15 GMT 1, A lot of shippers won't take glazed pictures, but if you do package it in- bubble wrap, ply board or some other rigid material, then bubble wrap again then plain paper. Also a sticker that informs the carriers depot staff that the item is too heavy to hit a six with works sometimes.

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by opalis141 on Aug 20, 2014 17:02:49 GMT 1, Anyone have experience with Uline Deluxe Art Shippers (http://www.uline.com/BL_2356/Deluxe-Artwork-Shippers)? I need to ship a framed work from NY to CO and have never shipped something framed before. I want to ensure a safe/smooth and easy delivery.

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by beenrhymin on Aug 20, 2014 17:14:52 GMT 1, yes, but to be honest, as long as the work is not under glass (vs. plexi which is fine) my best experiences have been with Master-pak boxes. Its a little costly (about 100usd for the box depending on size) but they come through perfectly and are made so literally a caveman could do it. I would check it out.

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by johnnyh on Aug 20, 2014 18:03:25 GMT 1, If shipping glass you kinda need to put a Union Jack style/pizza slices taping across the glass. If you do this and for any reason the glass breaks it will hold the glass together and away from the print.
It's not fool proof but works well and either prevents or minimises the damage. Cleaning the sticky residue off the glass is a pain. But not as big a pain as opening a complete mess up.
Masking tape works ok but you need to use plenty of it to almost cover the glass. Gaffer tape as with most things is great but you work hard to get it off. Do not use on plexi impossible to get off I find.
Then ship and pack as best you can

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by JAlternatión on Aug 20, 2014 20:58:35 GMT 1, I used Flight logistics for shipping recently, one of the few places that would do insurance above £2.5k. Very impressed with them. Wrapped the frame in bubble wrap until there was 4cm on each side and put into double walled telescopic cardboard box giving 4 walls.

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by Sohoria on Aug 22, 2014 15:43:00 GMT 1, Thanks for the flight logistics heads up, just awaiting a call back for sending two large pieces to the states. No quote on cost for something so big but they seem to deal a lot with sending artworks so grateful for this thread

Must say Sohoria have found them very good the times used them and decent on price as well. Not cheap but a good price.. They were much better than some of the supposed bigger, better art shippers I found. Hope it works out

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by Sohoria on Aug 22, 2014 16:33:56 GMT 1, Still waiting on a call back from them, but I would much prefer paying extra and knowing that it ends up at the destinations in one piece. I really would have used a standard courier so I have found for myself this thread very helpful

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2014 16:38:58 GMT 1, Some shippers like Fedex etc have a clause where they don't ship glass or pictures framed that include the glass so iff the item is shipped and the package dropped etc and the glass broken.
It won't be covered by insurance.
It's best to ask the shipper if they accept framed pictures with the glass.

Shipping a framed print - packaging?, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2014 18:27:41 GMT 1, the mainstream shippers like fedex dh ups etc are fine but i took a framed oïl without glass direct to a depot (won't say which one) i made a very nice plywood box from and put nice thick corrugated cardboard round the painting before i put it in the box.
so all in a very secure sturdy package.
Took it to the depot.
there agin i'm in France
c'est la vie avec un shrug of the shoulders
paid, walked away and heard a load bang where some muppet working there just threw the box on the floor.
Had other items delivered which had huge footprints on the box too.

Yeah ive had the footprints as well, never skimp on packing materials, most packages will be stood on, dropped and even thrown, i sent a few pieces in a crate to dubai, the plane had to crash to damage the works, one side of the crate was smashed in, must have hit it with a forklift, luckily no damage to prints!
