Print Over Runs?, by settingson on Jul 30, 2014 13:26:40 GMT 1, Have recently seen 'over runs' of a few artists being sold on the Bay. Just wondered how frequently they happen and if they are worth purchasing as opposed to the signed and numbered run? Obviously at the end of the day you get the image and hopefully it is of the same print run. Nearly bought a Hush the other day but didn't in the end as the paper was thinner than the original run which in all fairness the seller openly answered my question. Originally assumed these were what were called the 'backdoor prints but a couple of weeks back that question got answered on a thread somewhere and it was different to what I had been assuming. I did buy one of these Eine's though and await to see what arrives! Thought for the money it was worth the gamble! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ben-Eine-Hell-Yellow-Four-Colour-Screenprint-overrun-not-signed-or-numbered/351128292969

Print Over Runs?, by Deleted on Jul 30, 2014 14:04:09 GMT 1, It looks nice enough for the price.
I doubt that overruns will climb in value though.

Print Over Runs?, by artobox on Jul 30, 2014 14:27:26 GMT 1, I've never really heard the term over run before... Generally when a screen print is produced you will always print extras. This is to cover mis-prints, damage or for archiving. If it is from the same run, it will be exactly the same. Same ink, paper, screens etc.
Producing a print is not that expensive, the more colours the bigger it is, the more it costs. The value comes from it being a signed and numbered limited edition. This is your guarantee that there will only ever be that amount in existence.
Most art prints are not produced by the artists, they are printed by a screen printing company so the artist is probably not aware or happy about these kinds of prints surfacing. You also have no way of knowing how many extras have been printed...
If you just want it for the image, to hang on your wall and look nice, that's fine.
