DO take a carnival map/guide so you can locate particular sound systems, the route of the floats, or just to see how spread out carnival is so you can ensure you cover as much of the area as possible.
DO be prepared for crowds on both days, the later on in the day it becomes.
DO have FUN - the most important thing.
DO be sensible.
DON'T worry.

But be careful if you stay after dark as this tends to be when things can happen. But generally a great peaceful fun event....you'll love it good food, music and people

Don't bring much money. You really don't need it. Don't buy beer etc on the street, it's usually waaay overpriced. Just grab something on your way here.
Don't get too wasted, too early. You see people puking up or lying in the gutter at 11.30am - honestly, I just don't see the point.
The mobile network gets overloaded; texting is usually more reliable than phoning.
Sunday (Childrens' day) is usually the quieter of the 2 days and Monday is really big. If your tolerance to being in a crush is not good, check out Sunday and then see how you feel about Monday. For me personally, the area up around Southern Row/Middle Row can have a bit of a lairy atmosphere as well as being intensely crowded.
