Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by Deleted on Aug 25, 2014 22:05:17 GMT 1, So basically what I'm sensing is any debate about meaning, the numerous editions and lets face it any attempt to pass a critical eye over a release - means being called names?
Pathetic
Open your eyes people you're being used.

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by Deleted on Aug 25, 2014 22:34:09 GMT 1, GP is a top notch company, introducing us to many new artists and providing quality releases. Personally, I think the larger the print run the better... It gives people who want one a better chance of scoring one on release.
I think people should be discussing the work - both pros and cons... But why is it up to GP to explain the meaning behind their releases? They're a print house, so they release what they think people will like. If an artist wants to explain the meaning behind their work, they can. No reason to knock a company that works hard to support the urban art scene

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by South Bound on Aug 25, 2014 22:35:19 GMT 1, I don't own this website. I am an unpaid volunteer and do not profit from being affiliated with this site. I actually lose out on a lot of opportunities for give aways because of my affiliation. You can say anything negative you want about GP or anyone else for that matter, we encourage open dialogue on here. I was just stating that my personal experiences with GP & Giancarlo have been amazing and I can't imagine why people on here would criticize a guy for trying to give away free art but then again this has happened in the past to other people that gave away free stuff so it is understandable. alittle your comments were frankly insulting and the insinuation I can be bought are way off the mark. I was referring to this website, not you personally, which Graffiti Prints does in fact pay money to advertise on (http://urbanartassociation.com/thread/109961/advert-banner). As a moderator, you are a representative of the website, which is why my comment was directed your way. If I don't like something that is being released, I say it. If I like something that is being released, I say it. If you want to take away the right for members to speak freely, you may as well close the forum down, because any ensuing discussion is worthless. I have nothing against Giancarlo personally, nor do I have anything against their roster of artists. The only questionable actions were surrounding the OUTIS release, but other than that, they seem like a good organization. I don't particularly like this style of promotion, and I know I am not alone in that sentiment. Each thread like this is 6-10 pages of yes men hoping to get a free print, with no actual discussion of the work in question. I commented that the edition size is aggressive for a first release. A comment which I stand by. Nobody is making you look at this thread. GP makes it pretty obvious that this is contest thread and you can easily ignore it. I don't read every single thread, only those that I have interest in.
It is a promotion to make us aware of what is coming down the pipe. Some I will buy, some I don't, but at least I know it's there. These giveaway just add a little spice to the drop.
I am glad you want a little context to the image, but you could use a little more tact.
relax alittle bit.

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by alittle on Aug 25, 2014 22:45:45 GMT 1, South Bound, so we need 2 threads then? One for the contest, another for discussion? I looked at this thread initially, as I would with any other release thread, and I was taken aback by the number of editions for this print. I felt this was the most appropriate place to comment.

Free thinking in street art/urban art/graffiti is so passรฉ.Either jump aboard the gravy train or stfu
*sarcasm off
Some of the 'big name' posters in the thread should be ashamed. You were all around LONG before this sort of 'business model' was introduced to the forum. Now we have a gallery advising what needs to change on the forum.Anyone with a good memory will remember when reasonable suggestions have been made, alas these were from just members and not a gallery that pays a fee.
Of course we need new artists producing new works, what ever happened to QC process. Some releases leave me just cold and cringe

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by samfrost on Aug 25, 2014 22:51:57 GMT 1, The trolls are out today! Don't like it, don't buy it. It's more fun to sit on the sidelines these days and buy originals, while everyone is scrounging to make 50quid on a cool color print.
Personally, glad to see new artists. Just wish I had more intel on their background and process. The illusory hype so common in urban art is not all that welcome in other art sectors. Transparency is what I like to see in terms of knowing "who" the artist really might be...

I looked at this thread initially, as I would with any other release thread, and I was taken aback by the number of editions for this print. I felt this was the most appropriate place to comment. alittle It is their first release, but all you need to do is follow them on instagram to see that this guy has been doing his thing for a minute. 180 pieces total of a print on paper ain't that much, and to be honest, the only reason you should care is if there are too many is if you plan on selling it shortly after the release.
@badrobot if you read the opening page you will see Graffiti Prints's little blurb about what the print is meant to say. You think it is shallow, I think it's genius. In fact I plan on putting it in my office if I score because of how moronic I find the whole selfie thing to be.
As for anyone who said this guy should just jump on here and post comments... let me remind you that Nafir is actually living in Iran, and anything that leaves a digital trace increases his likely hood of being tracked exponentially.
As for this forum being about conversation or critique, that is what it is for. However criticism when not constructive is destructive, so just be mindful to try ansd say what you have to say in a way that doesn't come off as dickish and I think we would all be better off for it.
Just my thoughts.

If that floats your boat. If people want to participate they will, if not then it will die. But you don't have to kill everyone elses good time by making businesses (or people) like GP not want to start these giveaways.
You can totally comment here, but eventually the negativity will just gain you the label of "Troll" (which I am sure you are not).

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by Sohoria on Aug 25, 2014 23:42:24 GMT 1, Had a few PM messages about this thread so while talking a break....
I believe the artist would have the final say on edition size, not so much the gallery and yes it is GP that would be taking the risk but they believe in the artist so it is their choice.
As far as promoting work and giveaways (guilty) think no harm and if exposes more people to the artwork with the chance to win think it is a good thing. Ideally if there could be a website that people could visit and put down their names there think would be a great idea...if someone could do the design please PM me.
I don't see anything wrong with someone talking about edition sizes or giving their viewpoint as long as it doesn't attack a forum member. If everyone agreed on everything all the time would imagine this forum would die out pretty quickly so discussion about the art is a good thing.
Maybe the wording on some responses could have been phrased a little better but if the work is put onto the forum then it opens itself (good or bad) to critique.

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by Graffiti Prints on Aug 26, 2014 0:12:33 GMT 1, We are releasing - Selfie a great take on a social media trend thats says a lot about todays self obsessed society and how these people are so desperately trying to project themselves on the world.. So it's simply an image about selfies - anyone concerned it's a little shall we say 'one note' ? A little lacking in longevity? A little shall we say empty?
Shall we say you don't read the thread properly and just judge?
So quick to vent your distaste for all things new
So is hmv out of date now, eelus shat at?
You just love to make a point and counter argument which is fair enough, it gets the nafir's print more air time
Older members I see just don't comment more than once or never as that way a thread disappears more quickly which if you don't like the print would be your goal
I seen a great image, it really struck me and is a classic IMO
I back that type of thing when I see it!
When banksy made 750 editions before they sold quick was that madness?
Funny enough the more New art I see the more it makes me think the artists these days are really upping there game and coming up with great ideas
Remember banksy to new artists, is what Warhol is to banksy

Questions out of curiousity for GP: The canvases are 'edition of 20 - 3 of each colorway'. Does that mean there are 20 editions of each of the three colors? i.e. 'edition of 20 - 3 colorways'. Are the canvases actually sprayed by Nafir or done along with the screenprints in the UK? Subjective question for anyone: Are such canvases considered to be 'originals' or 'editions'?

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by met on Aug 26, 2014 3:37:51 GMT 1, A Hasselblad 503CW. Excellent choice. And since last year, no longer produced. I myself use one to take hourly selfies.
Though I consider Nafir's work terrible, this kind of competition seems fair enough as a means of promotion for galleries and publishers, despite annoyingly clogging up the New Posts section. Individual members do the same, when being generous, when in a celebratory mood, or when insecure because they feel their popularity or sense of self-worth has diminished.
Competition threads for disclosed artwork are also less sad than seeing a long list of usernames that people have blindly joined to win some mystery prize, not even knowing if they'll like it. "Might turn out to be shรญt. But, hey, it's free shรญt!"

Nafir Selfie Print Release & Competition , by Sohoria on Aug 26, 2014 4:04:32 GMT 1, After looking through the Facebook pictures, I have to admit I like the street artwork if it was of the child painting the sun (and if I had money :/ ) would have definitely wanted it.
The butterflies are pretty amazing too.
Artwork on the smaller cigarette packets is interesting and can see practising on different mediums at that time. Artwork "I am under control" seems fitting and I like the Ali collage too. All art is up to interpretation but would like to say give her Facebook page a look and maybe then can get more of what the artist is about.
Good luck to anyone that wants it

Selfies, love them or hate them tell a story of our time, whats wrong with an image being 'one note' most of the greats truly are.
Personally I think this image is boring and will look horrible on a wall, I don't know what it means by just looking at it and will need some kind of explanation.
Irans also not as bad as everyone makes out, I know plenty of artists and street artists from there, nice country.

So it's simply an image about selfies - anyone concerned it's a little shall we say 'one note' ? A little lacking in longevity? A little shall we say empty? Selfies, love them or hate them tell a story of our time, whats wrong with an image being 'one note' most of the greats truly are. Personally I think this image is boring and will look horrible on a wall, I don't know what it means by just looking at it and will need some kind of explanation. Irans also not as bad as everyone makes out, I know plenty of artists and street artists from there, nice country.

GP is a business and whatever your view of them they do very good releases. That doesn't mean the thread should be restricted to just writing "thanks, in" though, even though that's exactly what I did
