Josh Keyes, New Tiny Showcase, by dbnetherleigh on Aug 26, 2014 18:47:44 GMT 1, Like the image - jk has obviously moved away from his classic 3d 'diarama' style work of the past few years - which I kinda miss since I've got most of his previous tiny showcase framed up in similar 8 by 10 frames. This is a bit bigger too - still, tis for charity and at $50 a pop is hard to pass. Think the last jk ts editions were up for a week, so watch the timing on this one - finishes this Thursday.......

Josh Keyes, New Tiny Showcase, by dbnetherleigh on Aug 26, 2014 21:50:26 GMT 1, Yep - unsigned like all previous tiny showcase keyes. Do come with a numbered COA - matching number on the back of the print I think. Last few releases have been timed (open for a week - no maximum) so have sold truck loads. Still lovely quality though........

Josh Keyes, New Tiny Showcase, by Someones Brain on Aug 27, 2014 10:33:30 GMT 1, People really buy this print? For the image? I know it was discussed before but Keyes' new "direction" does nothing for me: it feels like he lost track completely. His older prints and canvases addressed the "clash" between wildlife/nature/environment/... and civilisation and/or its remains. They got their artistic tension (and message) from that contradiction. These new pieces are just (pretentious) kitsch. Common, it's sleeping animals in an idyllic green forest. What's the difference to 18th century landscape painters? I'm sorry for the hard words but I just can't get over it. What a waste of talent. I really love his older prints though.

He's lost the dots that join it all up as above.
Over 840 sold for a good cause so can't be bad.

Josh Keyes, New Tiny Showcase, by maddoghoek100 on Aug 27, 2014 20:55:53 GMT 1, Bob Ross was AMAZING. a truly gifted eye for nature painting and a brilliant teacher. EVERYONE should watch an episode of the Joy of Painting and give it a try. i love those happy little trees. Likely no similarities in style or technique. Other than being landscapes bob's wet on wet oil paint technique is completely different than josh's more meticulous work with acrylic.
Regarding the specific piece and the new approach. I think there is something of a conceptual framework here that is not fully evolved, but it is more than sleeping animals in the woods. There is something here about emergent nature and perhaps a warning about waking the sleeping giant. I do think it blends in too much with the landscape of "fantasy painting" and could easily stand in as the cover of some type of young adult fantasy novel.
Personally this is not my favorite piece in the new style (that would be the chase and roaming woods which both bridge the gap between old and new a bit more effectively). I do not think it is as powerful as his work with nature reclaiming the land and the questions of what are the lasting monuments to human existence. Some of the previews for JK's upcoming work look like he has gotten his arms around how to use this new style to make some more powerful statements. time will tell.

Josh Keyes, New Tiny Showcase, by oldman on Aug 27, 2014 21:01:25 GMT 1, This made me go back for a closer look, and I'm glad that I did. There's a little more going on than just "animals sleeping in a forest," which is all that I saw at first. It's kind of a much subtler variation of the previous work that grabbed and held everyone's attention.
Also, maximum respect to the one they call Bob Ross.

But still admire people trying a new things, such as Faile at the moment. I just don't want to buy it this time.

Josh Keyes, New Tiny Showcase, by maddoghoek100 on Aug 27, 2014 22:56:22 GMT 1, I sat out the last two print releases of the new style and have not regretted it. I think i would regret not grabbing the TS, low price, donation to charity, and it is an ok piece, not great, but OK. I really think either of these two would have soothed some of the new style debate.

The animals are going to a place to die, the grass has fully grown over some, the fox saying "goodbye" its sad as hell. Kudos to Keyes, hes amazing.
