Faile Box, by bill on Jan 17, 2008 15:49:44 GMT 1, I am interested in purchasing a Faile Box (I don't know the name of them, but similar to the Warhol Brillo Box). If you have one or know where I could purchase one let me know. What do these sell for?

Faile Box, by Harveyn on Jan 18, 2008 0:17:50 GMT 1, Surely the image is more important than the size. Besides some are smaller in height and depth yet bigger in width. Also the red & white versions were sold from the original NYC show at a cheaper cost.
For me its the image and then you offer what you can afford.
F-Head was always my favourite Faile image and therefore when faced with the choice I picked the only one with this image. The fact that it was cheaper because it was thinner was a complete bonus.

If Faile are selling them for 3K and 3.25K on their site, I don't think that Laz selling them for 3.5 is too crazy. Do you?

The last release September or October these boxes jumped up to $5500 direct from Faile. The ones that Laz are selling for ยฃ3.5k they were only asking ยฃ1.5k for in June/July. And the ones that they are selling now are the ones that failed to sell out at the show, which means they're less desirable but ironically they are now even more money. A bit manipulative and opportunistic I think.

Faile Box, by Chuck D on Jan 19, 2008 3:06:36 GMT 1, Actually for this size they were $6,00 and $6500. One of my good friends was able to get one. Either way, if you think they're too pricey then so be it. But I wouldn't throw Laz under the bus for charging 3.5. Currently, that seems like a very fair price.

Faile Box, by darjeeling on Jan 19, 2008 4:19:40 GMT 1, To each his own, but 7k for some of the less desirable boxes that they were asking 3k for a couple months ago I still wouldn't call exactly 'fair'. And some of Laz's recent prices have definitely been very opportunistic and trying to take advantage of hype and emotion as opposed to building careers and client bases. Will they be so quick to cange their tune when the market slumps?
And perhaps the prices varied on the boxes but they definitely started at $5500 in Sept. And in June they were $2500 and up. Now it's $7000? Going to be hitting that glass ceiling real soon.

Faile Box, by bobbymeachamjr on Jan 19, 2008 18:09:47 GMT 1, I've always been open minded and pessimistic about "valuations" from this scene Nevertheless, you can't reference prices from Sept and compare it to now with respect to Faile - A LOT (all good) has happened since. ie. Sothebys AND AND AND maintaining exclusivity by not flooding the market.
Same goes the other way - you can't reference Micallef prices from last sept in an effort to put a price on current valuations. Unfortunately, they're a fraction of what they were...

Faile Box, by bobbymeachamjr on Jan 19, 2008 18:20:37 GMT 1, on another note why does everybody systematically categorize art work in such mundane ways ie. Faile box 30x12x4 = Price X / Original by artist X = price X!
It doesnt' matter what the image is. It doesn't matter the quality of execution.

Faile Box, by darjeeling on Jan 19, 2008 18:20:44 GMT 1, I can tell you that the boxes at the NY show definitely did not sell out, I was there on the last day and they still had quite a number of boxes to choose from including the ones they're still selling now. They had bunches of the red and white boxes. The canvases however did sell out.
As far as Sotheby's and prices goes sure, a big auction can have an impact but I'm still highly skeptical. I've seen things sell at auction for 20k one year and for 10k the next. And fine pay what you want, I'm just saying retail prices have gone up at least 300% in 2007. I doubt the market could come close to bearing that kind of price increase again. In fact I can't see it going much higher at all at this point without a negative backlash to the prices. But you're welcome to prove me wrong
