Current CYW auction prices?, by linter on Aug 31, 2014 19:32:50 GMT 1, On August 17th, in one of the many Banksy Choose Your Weapon threads, CuriousGeorge wrote: "Given the recent auction history of CYW.If I ever found myself in the position of having to sell I would run to the auction houses. Kinda bluechip image too so you could def haggle a deal on fees ."
I have scoured the internet and can't seem to find the recent auction prices he is talking about. It's probably due to my dunderheadedness, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be mighty appreciative.
I'd also be interesting in knowing about any off-auction actual recent CYW selling prices. Actual, not speculation.
I have a sky blue CYW, with coa, that I'm thinking of selling. My initial plan had been to hold onto it forever and leave it to my daughter, but she's not that fond of it and, anyway, by that time it could be worthless. Or worth an even bigger fortune. Who knows? But I digress ...
Thanks for any info you can share. And do you agree with CG, that if one were interesting in maximizing price, an auction house would be the way to go? and which auction house?
thanks!

Current CYW auction prices?, by johnnyh on Aug 31, 2014 19:53:37 GMT 1, One of the members here put on into a French Auction and it did really well. Remember you do have to pay the auction house fees/% of the sale. Not all sales go as well as that one and for that piece which is both the beauty and problem with auctions. It is an auction a few buyers want it and the price goes up...not many buyers and the price is stagnant. You can always agree a reserve etc.
Or you can just put a price on it and sell privately or to a gallery.
Eg if the market value is 10 and you sell privately for 9 or 10 that's what you get. If you sell at auction and it sells for market value you get 9/10 less the fees But if sells at auction for 15 you pay fees and get 12 etc
So auction can be better but it also may not be there is an element of risk involved. If you don't want that risk do a straight sale it's easy and you hopefully get the price you want. But if you take a bit of risk you can come out on top or as one member here did I would say get well a head of general market value

Current CYW auction prices?, by linter on Sept 1, 2014 15:14:39 GMT 1, thanks very much, all. the last two findartinfo.com sales -- at $15.5K US and $19k US -- were in 2013. what would be interesting to find is a CYW sale that came after the nutso-wacko French auction sale in June. The bunch o Banksy's at the Philips auction didn't include a CYW, and if one recently went on eBay, i can't find it. So here I stand, scratching my head. any other thoughts?

The best way to find out the value is to sell it on eBay, at 99p no reserve. That way you'll also be doing a valuation service of sorts to the community of other CYW owners...thanks in advance

Current CYW auction prices?, by linter on Sept 2, 2014 2:11:20 GMT 1, Take it to auction with a realistic reserve, at this price point is ebay the answer? ah, well, that's a question i haven't exactly figured out. anyone care to hazard a guess, with the logic spelled out? certainly, the fees would be less on eBay. if i sold it for 24k US, total fees, ebay and paypal, would be $950, or around 4%. ain't gonna get any better than that -- in terms of fees only, of course. so, the question remains: is ebay the answer at this price point?
i sure would lllllove to put it on ebay with a 99 cent opening bid -- gawd, that'd be fun -- but i hate ebay auctions with a reserve and no way would i chance it without one on my precious cyw.
what to do, what to do (drums fingers).

Current CYW auction prices?, by beenrhymin on Sept 2, 2014 14:22:40 GMT 1, One of the members here put on into a French Auction and it did really well. If you sell at auction and it sells for market value you get 9/10 less the fees But if sells at auction for 15 you pay fees and get 12 etc So auction can be better but it also may not be there is an element of risk involved. If you don't want that risk do a straight sale it's easy and you hopefully get the price you want. But if you take a bit of risk you can come out on top or as one member here did I would say get well a head of general market value Artnet doesnt charge the seller any fees.... but i would agree with the rest
