iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by Deleted on Sept 10, 2014 14:08:54 GMT 1, . I've been considering swapping over to Android for a while, as I now consider Apple to be the evil empire due to their restrictions on formats, the whole itunes/app store set up and the lack of cross platform support - also the hardware quality just isn't what it once was. Anywho, I'd be interested to hear members views on iOS vs Android, particularly users that have made jump over from iPhone. Also, people's views on current/upcoming Android phones - some of my geekier chums swear by their Google Nexus and LG devices...
#thankyouplease

Strangely, they aren't well known in Europe and I haven't penetrated the market yet but it is much much much cheaper than others. Comes with Android.
As for me, African resident flooded by cheap Chinese products, I bought my Huawei Android smartphone with dual SIM at 41 GBP

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by umphreak on Sept 10, 2014 15:05:10 GMT 1, I always hear people say "Apple doesn't innovate". Blah, blah, blah. Samsung copied the shit out of the iPhone. as did many other companies. Fact is, Apple integrates features sometimes years after they've been done by other phones. The difference? They actually do it RIGHT. The new Apple Pay--NFC--has been done by others. The difference is, Apple will make it actually WORK. They have the ecosystem and the market power to make stores adopt the technology. iOS is, by far, the most slick interface for any phone. No lag. All the features you need--and they WORK. Restrictive review process? Sure. But the apps don't crash continually and i don't need to worry about malware. Just look at that stupid Nexus ad. Yes, the phone is the same size and some of the features appear similar. But that is where the similarities end. It is a shit phone when compared to the new iPhone. It's not even in the same league. It only touts the BS features like you see in desktop/laptop computers---Ohh, that is a fast CPU!! Too bad the ram is slow as shit and the MB sucks. All phones have room for improvement--including Apple. This next phone looks like a huge step forward.
But this is all in my own opinion--and i couldn't care less about what features others want. I don't get wrapped up in the us vs. them, my phone is better than your phone BS. To each their own. I'm glad there is a device that can everyone can enjoy. I'm just happy that there are other companies out there who will push each other. Competition is good. And if other companies want to rush features out to market to be "first", great. I'm willing to wait for Apple to get it right.

I'm not anti-Android, it's just not my preference. It's made significant improvements. I just don't like the UI. I don't like the fragmentation. I don't need or desire the customization that android fans clamor for. Though i do laugh a bit when they say how "open" their OS is, but need to "root" the phone to do what they want. Well, if you jailbreak the iPhone, you can do the same crap.

Wonder why that is?? Ford doesn't use the slogan "you can have a car in any color you want, so long it is black". So? What trends need to be bucked?
There isn't much room for huge change for phones/computers. The cell phone market has matured. So have computers. The watch market is new--we can see how that plays out.
I think the convergence between phones/tablets and computers is the next big step. iOS 8 pushes that much closer to reality. Windows keeps stumbling in this respect.

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by Martin DK on Sept 10, 2014 19:54:00 GMT 1, I have had both android phones and iphones. I prefer iphones now. Some years thought it was kinda nice to tweak those android phones, but not any more. I just want it to work, and I like the integration between the Mac OS and the phones. Should be even better when Yosemite comes out. I'm not a big fan of mavericks though, had a series of issues, so have mainly used windows 8, which suits me fine.
I does however sometimes worry me a bit with all those different software versions on all those different android phones, and also that they often don't continue updating them after release.
I often hear that people don't like apple phones as they feel that apple restricts them and their freedom with their possibilities. Each to their own, and I'm sure this applies to some. However, I have found when asking what it is those people want the freedom to do, I rarely get an answer. Just the other day I heard the same complaint from and android user, but it turned out he didn't even know how to put those emoji thingies into his texts. Hehe.
Each to their own. I think the new iPhones are maybe a little too big, and I would have loved even better battery life. Otherwise they look nice enough to me.

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by Red Barron on Sept 12, 2014 1:27:09 GMT 1, Have owned several iPhones and always enjoyed them. However I was lucky enough to get a defective iPhone 5. The on/off button quit working in the second year of my phone contract and Apple refused to replace/fix it because 1) the warranty on the phone expired after a year and 2) they claimed my phone was "already compromised" due to a missing pin inside that only allows the phone to be charged when plugged in to one side of the mini USB cable. So now I've had six months of life without being able to turn the phone off and the battery drains quickly...so given the crappy customer service and product quality (which was a big reason I switched to Apple in the first place), I am finding it hard to buy apple products right now. But the big Androids also scare me as I worry it will be too bulky when carrying around. Anyone overcome that?

Problem is you need to plug in to turn on.
However, there are two known faults with older iPhones, battery and the button. Go to apple site and see if you can get a free repair - I was able to for both

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by Invaded 420 on Sept 21, 2014 14:14:43 GMT 1, Yeah the triple click button thing enables you to switch off but like you said. You can't switch on. Did it once when the button was being temperamental and plugging in didnt turn on when I'd switched it off. Luckily I pushed the button super hard on a drawer an it came on. Only way it will switch on by pluggin in for me is when the phone switches off due to the battery running out

I'll bet it's still a shite phone. That's the thing with iPhones -- great computers, crap phones.
And everything I own is mac!

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by sommguy on Sept 22, 2014 4:48:25 GMT 1, im gettign a big one. i have the samsung note 3. its buggy, very unreliable... the new iPhone, the larger one, is about .5 inches bigger than the note 3 but has way more functionality for me. i like that you don't have to connect to the cloud. and the wallet function is going to be very convenient. but i worry about having all that financial data on a phone. its not hard to hack a phone...

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus , by Hubble Bubble on Sept 22, 2014 8:16:38 GMT 1, I have had every iPhone as they were released. Usually bought on the first day of release. I still have an iPhone 5 (though I held onto my 4 for a while). No matter what anyone here says, I refuse to hear that these are not terrible phones. Their connectivity to networks is notoriously patchy, they have a track record of calls failing, their antenna are weaker than many competitors'. So… whilst I absolutely buy the seamless connectivity with computer and data issue is a major selling point - and this is key to me as a mac user, so it's primarily why I still use iPhones - I see these devices as mini computers with phones attached… hence my firm, unshakeable opinion that the phone part of them is s**te. They are, however, a triumph of marketing and I, as are millions of others, am suckered.

Blaming network contention and data issues are mostly your service area and base network service provider, not the hardware. At least in the states signal strength and data now are non issues where hardware is concerned and all about provider coverage and non wifi data quality/speed.
