Revealing Your Ebay Reserve Price, by morrissey1 on Jan 19, 2008 3:19:11 GMT 1, Just kind of a basic question, but what do people on here think about revealing their reserve price on ebay to potential buyers. I recently sold something, but prior to selling it on ebay someone emailed me and asked my reserve. At first I thought, "yeah right, good luck buddy"....but then I thought about it, and maybe it is a good idea to reveal it to people who ask, so they can better gage how to bid......thoughts?

Revealing Your Ebay Reserve Price, by hollywouldifhecoul on Jan 19, 2008 6:57:27 GMT 1, As a buyer, it definitely helps. Was trying to pick up a "driving home" on the low just 2 days ago. Reserve price was just $50 more than I offered. Had I known that, I would have bid that high. No reason to try and hide the price if that price is really what you're wanting. Course, without telling you risk the chance of loosing out on some over-bid dollars.
I vote "yes".

I think giving an indication if someone asks specifically is ok as per the above it can help. It only reduces the chances of maximising your final figure if two people know and one will only go as high as the reserve or if it puts off a bidder who would have bid, but the reserve is too high

Revealing Your Ebay Reserve Price, by snakes on Jan 19, 2008 10:48:02 GMT 1, dont know why people bother setting reserves. Why not have that figure as the starting amount for the auction as it is cheaper to list that way too as no reserve fee's..

couldnt agree more...start the auction at the amount you want (obviously on the lowend) and see what happens...if you get no bids, relist since you are obviously selling above market value....

Revealing Your Ebay Reserve Price, by loucastel on Jan 19, 2008 17:25:43 GMT 1, I cant really understand the reserve price thing, as Snakes said if you start it of at the least you will be happy with anything over and above that is a bonus, I cant see why a reserve price should be a secret, and if you are asked directly, no harm in revealing it, at least it gives the bidder the option of bidding or not.

Revealing Your Ebay Reserve Price, by Wiseblood on Jan 19, 2008 21:47:52 GMT 1, I wont bid on anything unless i know the reserve, im not going to waste my time, staying in, watching it till the end and bidding at the last minute if the price is higher than im willing to pay.
