Help this Sketch book get home..., by met on Sept 13, 2014 12:04:41 GMT 1, Ive had this Leather bound book in my possession for a few years,
I keep trying to trace the family and get nowhere.
Some mega sketches inside....
This belongs to a E.K Squire of 56 Leyburn Road Dover.
I have managed to find out the E.K is Edward Keith, son of B.B Squire..
Some time in the 20's the family moved to Kent.. This is where the trail goes cold..
I would love to return to the family.. If anybody can help out I would be grateful.

Although a television programme could be a fun adventure, if you're serious about just finding the family — as quickly as possible and without distractions — then far simpler alternatives exist:
1. Subscribe to specialised websites offering details of birth, marriage and death certificates.
You have a few names you can look up, and the records are likely to refer to the existence and perhaps identities of children / heirs. This doesn't necessarily require payment, even with the commercial sites. For example, www.ancestry.co.uk offers a 14-day free trial. Here's a page from the National Archives website that mentions other options available:
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/birthmarriagedeathenglandwales.htm
2. Have you tried searching online?
Sounds like a stupid question. But from the details you provided, I found plenty of information through basic web searches. The information relates either to the family members in question or their namesakes. Google is your friend with this kind of thing.
- An Edward Keith Squire was born in 1901 (between June and September — conflicting information exists) and died at the age of 86 in Truro, Cornwall in 1987.
- An Edward Keith Squire who died in 1987 was survived by his then spouse, Marguerite Squire, born in 1901.
- See this page from the commercial site www.findmypast.co.uk, with numerous references to Edward Keith Squire or Edward K Squire. Some potentially relevant information is available, including marriages (1932 in Cranbrook, Kent; 1950 in Chatham, Kent; and 1972 in Truro, Cornwall):
search.findmypast.co.uk/results/world-records-in-birth-marriage-death-and-parish-records?firstname=edward%20keith&firstname_variants=true&lastname=squire
- On 12 February 1932, the newspaper Kent & Sussex Courier reported the following: "INTERESTING SANDHURST WEDDING Mr. E. K. Squire, Lancashire Fusiliers, and Miss Gibson, who were married at Sandhurst on Monday". It's worth pursuing the Lancashire Fusiliers path to see if "Mr. E. K. Squire" is your Edward Keith Squire. Try this website: www.lancs-fusiliers.co.uk/ , or perhaps get in touch with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
- An Edith Mary Squire (presumably EKS's older sister) was born in Dover in 1898.
- EKS's sister, Edith Mary, married in 1920 to a Reginald Valentine Burke (born in 1891; son of William Henry Burke and Edith Louisa Burke; older brother to Rudolph Edmund Maurice Burke, born in 1892). They lived at Brook Street Cottage, Hartfield Road, Edenbridge, Kent TN8 5NH. Reginald Valentine Burke was an infantry officer and seems to have had an interesting life and military career. Check out this auction:
whytes.ie/13Main1Wide.asp?Auction=20110416&Lot=153
- On 25 September 1931, the newspaper Kent & Sussex Courier reported the following: "Edith Mary Burke, of Brook-street Cottages, Edenbridge, was fined 15s. 6d. for keeping a dog without a license on September 4th".
- A Hugh Noel Squire (presumably EKS's younger brother) was born in Dover in 1904.
- A Hugh Noel Squire (either EKS's brother or someone with the same name) served in WWII and was granted a commission as Flying Officer on 2 October 1939. Military archives are likely to reveal more details.
** No doubt there's other information available free online. You only have to do the grunt-work searches, as I did out of curiosity.
3. Make the most of the different address details you have in Kent.
It should be relatively simple to get in touch with people now living either at these addresses or nearby. The collective memory of the current residents and neighbours, especially the older ones, may offer helpful leads.
Good luck.

Help this Sketch book get home..., by jonb on Oct 11, 2014 21:51:53 GMT 1, This might be of little help but some the drawings which I recognise are copies of artists who were members of the London sketch club 7 Dilke St, London SW3 4JE
This will be of no use if the owner was a member of the public, but if it was an artist playing with others styles he just might have been a member of the club.
If you decide to follow this tenuous lead up PM me.
