Banksy Nola Question, by martigny89 on Sept 15, 2014 16:35:46 GMT 1, Hi all, I am a pretty new collector/admirer of prints and have fallen in love with Banksyโs Nola (the signed white rain one). I have been quoted a price from a gallery in the UK and I was wondering at how much of a mark-up a gallery would make on a piece like that.
I only say this because I bought an invader print at the same gallery last week (loved it and it was a bit of an impulse buy) only to then realise that the โonline marketโ advertised price was ยฃ300-ยฃ500 lower. Granted, I can appreciate the โsaferโ aspect of galleries but that mark up was rather high (especially in a pure % terms).
Could anyone spare a couple minutes to PM me and share a bit of knowledge on Nola and its current market value so I can more accurately benchmark the price?
Much Appreciated

Banksy Nola Question, by Hubble Bubble on Sept 15, 2014 17:38:37 GMT 1, I love NOLA, Martin. The white rain version is from the main release of 289, all signed. There are other A/P versions (all signed) - grey rain, orange rain, green/blue rain technicolor chunkier rainbow rain (okโฆ maybe I lied about that last one) etc butโฆ personallyโฆ I like the simplicity and clarity of the white.
Galleries will always charge more. They have overheads and are run as a business but, if you choose the right one (and do your homework), you can generally be assured that what you are buying is genuine. With Banksy, this is THE most important thing to consider. Soโฆ if you buy privately, you'll find NOLA cheaper BUT, you'll have to be very, very, very careful that what you're buying is 100% genuine.
If you go to someone like Andy at Castle Gallery then they will do a lot of that legwork for you (they will often source one if you ask them to) but you'll pay more to cover their costs and margin.
From what I hear these days, the prices Nickh87 has quoted are valid.
Simples
HB
Disclosures:
I have no connection and have never bought anything from Andy at Castle Gallery but he gets good references on the forum, seems a good bloke and knows his Banksys.
I have bought Banksys both privately and from galleries.

Hi martigny89, Welcome to the forum... Lovely print to start your collection with Love the Nola! Talk to Andy about price and piece. He can probably offer you a lot of info on the print and perhaps even some info on prices and gallery fees....
And since we all are honest and sharing information, i get a huge discount when i direct new forum members to Andy.

Banksy Nola Question, by johnnyh on Sept 15, 2014 19:58:07 GMT 1, If your new to the game as Hubble said be very careful with the sort of money your working with. this is one of the benefits with galleries or auction houses they do all the legitimising for you.
so although there is a levy you will know what your getting and your money/rights etc do have some protection.
private buys are a lot more nervous than gallery purchases particularly for high priced items. I buy all three ways. Have bought from Andy at Castle which was very good experience there are also a couple of other galleries on here such as prescription. Both of these guys do specialise in Banksy uk based so do tend to have relevant pricing. There are a couple of US galleries on here as well
good luck with it
