Favourite Framed Piece?, by pulse on Oct 6, 2014 21:57:48 GMT 1, Hey guys, Just getting sucked into the amazing world of art collecting. Having bought my first piece (Sainer - The other side of the game) I want to get it framed up, but wasn't sure how to get it done. Looking through the threads I can see there are different styles of framing as well as different techniques (such as float mounting), which all look really interesting. What I now need is some inspiration from you guys! I'd like to see the piece of framing that you feel has worked best, or that you enjoy the most and - most importantly - why you feel it works so well. Looking forward to seeing some great pieces! Thanks, P

Favourite Framed Piece?, by .dappy on Oct 6, 2014 22:07:17 GMT 1, ... Hi Pulse and welcome. A lot depends on the piece itself - style, image, size and your own aesthetics, eg space on wall, how big is your wall. Post/tell us about the piece you are thinking of framing ... I am sure some formulites will be able to give you some ideas even if it is to direct you to another thread ... a lot of the artists have their own 'show us your framed xxxx thread'
EDIT: just realised you told us you have the sainer piece

There's a huge thread on this forum! It's in the urban art section.

Favourite Framed Piece?, by pulse on Oct 7, 2014 12:27:42 GMT 1, Thanks Dappy - I've tried and failed to find that post but it would be lovely to see some pics if you can point me in the right direction. I've tried searching for t but can't seem to come up with the right thread.

Favourite Framed Piece?, by Nick on Oct 7, 2014 12:51:17 GMT 1, My suggestion is get a flatfile image of the print and download it. Then go to a site such as ezeframe.co.uk and upload it within the build custom frame section.. From there you can see what it will look like with all different combinations of mounts and frames. I wouldn't advise you to order from there unless you have skills framing, but it will give you direction for when you go to the framers.
Personally i'd side with dappy on this and go simple white box frame, but ive gone back on my initial thoughts before once i have seen different combinations. Sometimes a double mount lets the image really pop.

Favourite Framed Piece?, by oxomo on Oct 7, 2014 15:50:17 GMT 1, ezeframe.co.uk is a great tool. Have used it many-a-time in the past.
I'd go with a white box frame on this one too, create some added depth to an image that already has so many layers. Framed right, this will look awesome on the wall!

Favourite Framed Piece?, by jlf on Oct 7, 2014 18:40:57 GMT 1, I'd go for a float mount on black with a black frame, but it depends on the wall you are putting it on. that or possibly a really over the top old school ornate frame.

Favourite Framed Piece?, by pulse on Oct 7, 2014 23:24:41 GMT 1, Interesting! So I don't really know much about float mounting, but it seems to be getting a lot of recommendations from people. Is it where prints are mounted with a spacer underneath them so it looks like they're floating above the mount board? Why do you guys think it gives a better appearance than a traditional mount? Sorry to be such a noob, but it's great to be able to ask knowledgable people who care about their art, and who've already gone through these kind of questions themselves! Hope you're all having a good week, P
