Framer damaged prints, by khog on Oct 14, 2014 12:34:16 GMT 1, Hello,
A couple years ago I brought five Shepard Fairey prints and couple others to a framer down the street from my house. The results exceeded my expectations. I was so happy with the results that I just brought my pink and blue matching number Life prints by Ben Frost, matching number gold and silver LA Love prints by Ben Naz and Ernest Zacharevic's Enjoy Graffiti from Graffiti Prints to them as well. I looked at them quickly in the shop but, on closer inspection when I got home the Enjoy Graffiti and gold LA Love have creases from improper handling. Luckily I took a photo of the Enjoy at the framers and it's actually my avatar. There is no damage in the photo. My question is what would should I do? Have him reimburse me the original price of the print which is now sold out, buy me a new print which can be found on EBay but at a higher price or bring it to be repaired and send him the bill? I'm Pretty pissed off, they may not be priceless works of art but that is besides the point he didn't handle them properly. Has anybody else had an experience like this?
Thanks in advance for the advice K

Framer damaged prints, by Deleted on Oct 14, 2014 12:53:02 GMT 1, Talk to the framer and explain in a calm manner you're not happy and you want the prints to be restored to the condition they were before they were left in, if all fails contact @wizbong as apparently you can make a few quid rubbing peoples chins, not sure what it involves but might give it a go my self!!

Framer damaged prints, by johnnyh on Oct 14, 2014 21:05:36 GMT 1, I would be pretty certain he will not buy you a new print for a small handling crease.
Think as Castle says talk to him about the issue highlighting the problem and that you want it repaired at his cost. You can do that through say Graham Bignell get estimate he approves and pays. Or he solves the issue...however before agreeing to this find out and agree how this will be done and by whom..how are they qualified etc then agree or disagree the process for the repair etc if it is just a tiny crease it is easily removed so no great drama etc. don't over egg it just get it solved

Framer damaged prints, by mrchristopherrobinso on Oct 14, 2014 21:32:26 GMT 1, Most frame shops insure all images up to a certain amount, usually $500-$1000 dollars. I once had a a framer mess up a David Choe that I had bought on ebay and was sold out. I contacted the gallery who had sold the print originally. He said that I was in luck because he always holds back a couple of prints in case of shipping damage, etc. I had him send an invoice to the framer who paid it and I got a new print shipped to me.
BTW: I have an extra David Choe "Swamp Girl" 44 inch x 44 inch for sale edition of 16

Thank you for the advice. I got out of work a little late so I wasn't able to bring the pieces back.

I got out of work a little late so I wasn't able to bring the pieces back. yeah I'd be pretty ticked off too. But as others have said, don't loose your temper with the framer. They want your business in the future so they should want to make it right. Hopefully they'll agree to restore the print, which would be the best option, and maybe a nice discount on the frame too

Framer damaged prints, by khog on Oct 15, 2014 1:55:37 GMT 1, I don't even want to deal with them again to be honest. If they can't handle a print properly they have no business working at a framing shop. I guess I'm just unsure of what a realistic outcome would be. The restoration process isn't a guarantee, right?

Have you tried contacting Graffiti Prints and Black Apple Art ? Maybe they have an AP hanging around and if they do, you can try to get the framer to pay for it. Both are super great guys and I'm sure they'd help you out if they can

If they can't handle a print properly they have no business working at a framing shop. I guess I'm just unsure of what a realistic outcome would be. The restoration process isn't a guarantee, right? Well I wouldny go in to the framer with this attitude..... try to be nice and they will be more likley to help fix the problem. If you go in saying Im never coming back then they have no reason to make things right.
Restoration will fix the issue but its probably cheaper for them to buy new prints. The should be insured..... I know my framing shop is.
I dont see how they can damage a print so much....it takes a bit to crease a print like those.
They may have had a student in there doing some work..... or an unexperienced framer that doent know how to handle paper. Ive had som many pieces in the studio that the customer has damaged from incorrect handling.
Dissapointing.... thats for sure.
Good luck....

Framer damaged prints, by Deleted on Oct 15, 2014 7:47:41 GMT 1, Agree with what others have said - don't go in there all guns blazing as you won't get the resolution that you want. You p*ss people off, they'll use sellotape on your print where you won't see it. Firstly, ring them up and make them aware of the situation. That way you can go in when it's convenient for you. And make sure someone in charge is available; they will have the authority to resolve this.
It is for them to rectify the situation; give them the opportunity. If they send you away with a flea in your ear it'll get expensive and take time.
Good luck.

Framer damaged prints, by Mister Frame Man on Oct 15, 2014 9:04:25 GMT 1, We have in the past 7 years accidently damaged one or two pieces, everyone makes mistakes. However, the number of "horseshoes" and bad handling "dinks" on these pieces does surprise me, makes you wonder exactly how they did handle the pieces?
In these few cases I have always had the print restored or sourced a replacement at my cost whilst framing the piece free of charge for the inconvenience!.........This is what I would look for if I were you.

Framer damaged prints, by khog on Oct 15, 2014 23:10:23 GMT 1, Thanks everyone for the advice.
I just dropped the prints off and spoke with them, very calmly, you catch more flies with honey... I suppose I just needed a day or so to calm down. They were open to suggestions such as restorations and purchasing replacements. Surprisingly a little more keen on replacing them.
I know everyone makes mistakes, I work for an HVAC service company. We send and receive large expensive pieces of equipment on a daily basis, trust me over the last 12 years I've dented, scratched, dinged, broke more stuff than I can remember. I once hit a car with a forklift, the company paid out of pocket because it would have been cheaper than the insurance increase.
