Apparently there have been tons of fakes sold online... Giant Robot is a good shop. Have bought from them in the past, and at $850, these really seem like a steal to me. S

Murakami at Giant Robot, by thisisanton on Oct 14, 2014 18:37:52 GMT 1, Nice find. I also have been after one of his flower prints but I don't trust ebay enough to buy one. Unless someone has a recommendiation of an ebay seller that is reliable...I know this topic has come up every once in a while. But what are some galleries that sells his prints?

Murakami at Giant Robot, by maddoghoek100 on Oct 14, 2014 19:54:05 GMT 1, Giant Robot has been a primary US dealer for Murakami prints for the last few years. There selection is top notch and their pricing is as close as you can get to Japan primary market release prices on a lot of items. In terms of quality and rarity there are a few real gems Reverse Double helix at 3k is a very solid price. The print is spectacular, all black gloss and glitter. Pictures never do it justice.
If you are in the market for a Murakami you may also want to consider: www.yoox.com/project/Takashi_Murakami
I cant attest to the quality of framing, but these are 600 framed. they are not large, but they seem nice. I ordered when they were first released two weeks ago, but something got fouled with my order so has not arrived yet.
if you are in the US and just want to see some Murakami's in the flesh to make a purchasing decision check out Martin Lawrence gallery. They make a reasonable market in Murakamis and have a few locations so they may be nearby. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. Their inventory is top notch on a range of things but their pricing is for tourists who just hit it big at a blackjack table (they have a vegas location in Ceasers) and their New York location is much the same. As a data point they are listing the Double Helix i mentioned at 12k or there abouts framed. Worth every penny of 3k and i paid about 1k to have mine framed, so that is a hefty premium.

Murakami at Giant Robot, by dani3orange on Oct 15, 2014 9:45:20 GMT 1, I couldn't recommend ebay seller rcarcarca highly enough. Great guy to deal with, really helpful. He'll go out of his way to get the piece you want. It takes a while as he has to source it first. It took a couple of months but i eventually got the piece I was after. It arrived flat packed in an unopened Kaikai Kiki box. Beautifully packaged with instructions on how to unravel the print. I have never seen anything packaged like it!!! Amazing!!! he also gave me a Murakami book as a gift Really nice guy.

Sounds like he's one of the Japanese eBay sellers who takes orders and then just goes to Hidari Zingaro, Murakami's gallery in Tokyo, and buys direct. As I mentioned on the other Murakami thread, Hidari still have copies of much of the back catalogue at prices way below anywhere in the West. If you're in Tokyo and have a Japanese address, it's entirely straight forward to get most of the classics (or versions thereof) from Hidari. It's only the waiting times that can be a bit of a pain as you order in the gallery, but can't actually take the print then and there. Hidari's shipping times are pretty slow - I waited for over two months, before my print arrived at a friend's place in Japan.
Entirely agree, the Hidari/KaiKai KiKi packaging is pretty special.
