Ai Wei Wei at Blenheim Palace, by johnnyh on Oct 20, 2014 3:57:02 GMT 1, Surprised this has not been mentioned on here and also got more press in the UK. --------------------- This autumn, Blenheim Palace sees the launch of the new Blenheim Art Foundation, which brings an exciting new programme of contemporary art by leading international artists to the Palace. Opening on 1st October, celebrated Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s largest UK exhibition launches the foundation in ‘Ai Weiwei at Blenheim Palace’, with more than 50 new and iconic artworks on display throughout the palace and its grounds.
Artworks will range from photographs taken by Ai Weiwei whilst living in New York during the 1980s, through to a large carpet made especially for the exhibition, which will be on display in the Great Hall. Further artworks will include a table formed from wood reclaimed from temples dating to the Qing Dynasty (1644 -1911), intricately hand-painted porcelain plates, and Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads: Gold, Ai Weiwei’s reinterpretation of the legendary bronze zodiac head statues that once surrounded the fountain-clock at Emperor Yuanming Yuan’s Beijing imperial retreat. Our newly-refurbished room located in the Stables Courtyard will, for the first time, be used as a gallery space.
the above is taken from the Blen Palace website but from what I have read the show is kind of un documented in that the pieces are just there in the rooms as you look round the inside of the palace. Does look quite intriguing and a stunning setting in which to see works of art and quite a unique concept for them
The below pics are from google not me

Ai Wei Wei at Blenheim Palace, by londonboy on Nov 7, 2014 7:15:03 GMT 1, My gf went there, She said it was mind blowing !!!
And the Warhol show on the side was spot on ..
Highly recommanded ..
Now my personal opinion: Very controversial for all the antiques Chinese vases to be altered(big time)..
I m not sure what to think.. A bit caught in the middle..

Ai Wei Wei at Blenheim Palace, by johnnyh on Nov 7, 2014 9:05:44 GMT 1, Cheers Londonboy.
Sounds good thought really interesting the combination.
Re the Antiques I have a feeling that the pieces are re works of old vases but they are not rare Ming type stuff as the press release stuff indicates. So I would not worry that Chinese treasures are being used or destroyed think it's a bit more symbolism than reality...not saying there not old but.. the wood stuff is that used from replacements during repairs etc but again would use a bit of a pinch of salt
china is pretty protective of its history and relics these days and realizes how much was destroyed during the cultural revolution and in rapid modernization
