I have tried to see where he is and I am not having much luck, maybe he's hiding behind the print press, or he popped out when they took the photo. He should have worn a striped jumper? I think you have to figure in the price when critiquing this... IMO, this gets weakest print of the year. If it was significantly cheaper, I would not feel this way.
Regardless, this print feels really lazy.

Don't forget that it the โฌ2k price is exclusive of VAT. It will actually cost a 'cool' โฌ2,400 to be delivered to your door. And they don't seem to have any way of excluding the tax for non-EU buyers either (so they'll most likely be keeping the extra โฌ400 for themselves)...

No sweat. VAT sucks - I never noticed how bad it was until pricing out a new print the other day and realizing I'm gonna save 500 GBP not being in Europe. That's pretty massive.

Unfortunately, these site specific works draw most of their power from their immediate context. To stand in the place where Picasso produced work and have his giant eye look over you is probably heady stuff. However, reducing the experience to a photograph doesn't really translate.
As a 50EUR souvenir, I think this artwork makes sense (much like the Lincoln Center Ballet poster). As a 2,000EUR fine art print, it doesn't.

I carted one to see if I could check the inventory when it was listed at 1920. It showed up as 2000 once it was in the cart. It would only let me cart one, btw, so I couldn't check the inventory. |

Most of his prints were ( are ) not sold out years ago on Social Animals ( or every where ). And do you know wht ? He put from 500 to 1000 euros more on the prints without warning, from one day to the next !!
Well, he does not sell a lot, but has many subsidies of all municipal and governmental cultural bodies, a lot of sponsors.
I can't believe this costs 1,920.00 โฌ. Prints from JR are overpriced because his gigantic artworks around the world ( anyway ? I know that the man is not too much appreciated in the cultural backgrounds ( he is supposed to create cultural artworks, and not little mickey ) ... It's a fantastic image and people always comment on it when they come round (although it does scare my young nephews a bit)! JR's got a real talent so I'm hoping the last 2 releases are just a bit of a 'blip' in his career and he'll get back to producing great images soon. The David Lynch collab especially was bloody awful.
