Boardwalk Empire, by eschiff on Oct 21, 2014 18:41:51 GMT 1, i had a lazy weekend this past weekend and downloaded the first two seasons of walking dead...it's ok, hasn't blown me away yet.
My favourites from the past decade would be:
1. Sopranos 2. West Wing 3. The Wire
I watched the Newsroom and enjoyed it but can never seem to find it on TV anymore..
EDIT: LOVED House of Cards...a close fourth. Spacey can do no wrong in my book, his acting sucks me in.

The American remake is good, but I found the original British series to be better.

People complained there was too much tits and arse on show!! First series was brilliant then they gradually got worse, too rushed maybe?

Not quite as clean and tidy as the American series.
easily entertained me!!!

Boardwalk Empire, by curiousgeorge on Oct 26, 2014 0:59:44 GMT 1, Often overlooked but IMO these two did a lot of groundwork for how to do police tv shows
Homicide Life on the Street..Tv execs messed around with it and basically had too much say. Still an amazing study of a bunch of characters. Look out for Detective Frank Pembletom."We speak for the dead!" I'd confess to the great train robbery if our paths ever crossed!
NYPD BLUE.. Doesn't take long for a character to getting under skin and then you are hooked. It won a few awards in it's 12 year run!!

Boardwalk Empire, by dreadnatty on Oct 26, 2014 1:18:06 GMT 1, Agree 110% curiousgeorge. Homicide is tremendous and often overlooked. Anybody who likes The Wire should definately check this show out.
From Wiki: "based on book written by Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon describing a year spent with detectives from the Baltimore Police Department Homicide Unit. The book received the 1992 Edgar Award in the Best Fact Crime category.[1]
The book was subsequently fictionalized as the NBC television drama Homicide: Life on the Street (1993โ99), on which Simon served as a writer and producer. Many of the key detectives and incidents portrayed in the book provided inspiration for the first two seasons of the show, with other elements surfacing in later seasons as well. It later also provided inspiration for the HBO television series The Wire."

Boardwalk Empire, by Warm Gun on Oct 26, 2014 18:33:58 GMT 1, I've just finished season one of BWE. So far I'm slightly disappointed as it hasn't lived up to the hype whatsoever. Walking dead is the top of my recommendation list along with Break Bad. I'm looking forward to seeing Game of thrones back on the old telly box again soon.

It hots up. The characters grow and there is generally loads of insanity. But this doesn't really kick off for a while. Promise its worth sticking with.
