For sale: Micallef 'Save My Soul' and Reid 'Fúck Forever', by met on Nov 3, 2014 14:41:43 GMT 1, What follows is largely a cut-and-paste from a For-sale thread I posted in May 2012. Perhaps it can now be described as "vintage", which may broaden its appeal to a hipster contingent.
FOR SALE:
1. Antony Micallef - Save My Soul - £500
- Medium: Screenprint with hand finishing by the artist in two colours (pink and yellow) - Signed in pencil by Micallef - Embossed with a Micallef dollar sign blindstamp on the bottom-left-hand corner, and a separate 'P.O.W. Printmaking' blindstamp (encircling the edition number) on the bottom-right-hand corner - Edition: xxx/250 - Date: 2006 - Dimensions: 69.8 cm (h) x 48.5 cm (w) - Condition: As-issued / excellent; unframed; stored flat in archival conditions since purchase - Publisher: Published and released by Pictures on Walls
2. Jamie Reid – Fúck Forever (green and orange) - £400
- Medium: Screenprint - Signed, numbered and dated in pencil by Reid - Embossed with an Artificial blindstamp; rubber-stamped verso with copyright details (“© 1997 Sex Pistols Residuals under license from PolyGram Merchandising, Inc.”) - Edition: xx/350 - Date: 1997
- Dimensions: 101.2 cm (h) x 73.8 cm (w) (i.e. this print is large) - Condition: As-issued / excellent; unframed, and stored flat in archival conditions since purchase - Publisher: Published with the Artificial Gallery on Lafayette Street in New York City in 1997 for Reid’s Peace Is Tough exhibition; accompanied by a certificate of authenticity
- Other notes: This screenprint is the Sex Pistols image featuring the smiling, kneeling Margaret Clews (appropriated by Reid from a 1959 Picturegoer magazine), like the one for sale by Opus Fine Art here: tinyurl.com/c32kgue — not to be confused with Reid’s More Love: Fúck Forever inkjet series of the bikini lady with animal head.
The image was re-used for the cover of the Sex Pistols Agents of Anarchy compilation album.
-------------------
The two prints (i) were originally bought and collected by me in person, (ii) have never been framed, (iii) have always been kept flat, and (iv) have been stored since purchase in protective, acid-free acrylic sleeves and a plan chest.
Based in London.
I appreciate collectors who aren’t uncomfortable about disclosing their names and communicating in the old-fashioned way of by telephone or in person. So if interested, please get in touch with your name and contact number. Messages that include both these details will be responded to promptly.
Sorry, but no trades.
Ideally, buyers will be able to complete face-to-face transactions in Central London, allowing them to examine the prints before parting with funds. That said, the additional hassle and risk of sending prints to kindred spirits outside of London and even overseas is preferable to dealing with clowns who happen to be local. This is just a personal preference — no offence to any clowns intended.
In the spirit of compromise for this sale, I’m happy to set aside my prejudices against grown men and women who use textspeak, multiple punctuation marks, acronyms like “lol” and “imo” (or, worse, “imho”), or who otherwise sometimes express themselves like 13-year-old girls.
After giving the issue a fair amount of thought, I am however regrettably unable to deal with people who use the term "hater" as part of their vocabulary. Though I do wish to consider myself an open-minded and tolerant soul, this particular bias is just too difficult for me to overcome. And there's no point in having principles if one is prepared to simply brush them aside when they're inconvenient, like when trying to make a sale. I trust everyone will understand. Thank you kindly.

For sale: Micallef 'Save My Soul' and Reid 'Fúck Forever', by letiss on Nov 3, 2014 15:12:25 GMT 1, I'd stick to your guns and avoid any dealings with "text" communicators, unless that is they have a doctors certificate for some kind of literacy impairment. Very nicely presented for sale thread too.

For sale: Micallef 'Save My Soul' and Reid 'Fúck Forever', by met on Nov 4, 2014 23:16:21 GMT 1, i like your use of that special 'ú' ... but why you go & put that met all over your pix? sex pistols met fúck forever met met I've mentioned before that this forum's use of the ProBoards censored-word filter is excessive and patronising.
Regarding the homemade ugly watermarks, they're a precautionary measure to help safeguard the photographs against unauthorised use.
What you occasionally see or hear about is unprotected images being stolen by opportunists or fraudsters, and then added to sales listings on eBay or elsewhere. Different possible reasons:
(i) Pure laziness, where the seller is selling work from the same edition but can't be bothered to take their own photos.
(ii) To mislead buyers regarding the true condition of the artwork being sold.
(iii) Where a fraudster doesn't actually possess the work they're purporting to sell. In these cases, the photos offer credibility and help lull potential marks into a false sense of security. After a buyer makes an online payment, they end up receiving nothing at all. Or they receive a tube — sent by the thief using a signed-for delivery — which turns out to be empty, or which contains a cheap reproduction of the artwork the victim thought they were buying.
It isn't the kind of activity I wish to encourage.
