street art / copyright, by jo9 on Nov 4, 2014 20:57:36 GMT 1, Just wondering about something, we are making a sort of photobook about street art in London, just basically a student project but might still end up selling some copies of the books/booklet if it turns out ok. Anything we need to consider in terms of copyright? Photography in public spaces is fine right? Just want to make sure in case the printer or someone brings it up.

You've already made the mistake of raising the issue. Just get on and do it. From what you've said there are no issues, so go for it and if anyone brings it up just apologise and say you weren't aware.
You can search for answers online, and email as many people as you want, but you will be spending far too many hours dealing with people who won't give you a definitive answer. I've been there - and won't make that mistake again.

street art / copyright, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2014 21:08:14 GMT 1, If you take the photos in any public place you own the copyright.
So if you photograph graffiti in the street you can publish that photo anywhere you want.
If you want to use a photo from the net etc you need to ask permission from the owner of the site or whatever.
It's also true that if someone buys an original artwork that even though they own the artwork, they do not own the copyright.

As for copyright in regards of artist's image, a credit is always welcome but it is not mandatory But if really in public space, then yes you are 100% fine. This said, if it is a student project and locally, you should be fine regarding all of the above I think

But what headfall is saying. Just go out, enjoy the art and do your thing. And receive A level grades. :-)

I checked with the printer and they said they wont do any checks since its all automated so its all my responsibility. Makes sense.
But I wont worry about it anymore then, just gonna do it.
Cheers
